PRIMARY PURPOSE:Serve as the department's primary lead for strategic messaging, executive communications, and media relations to ensure clear, consistent, and effective communication that advances the districts vision, strengthens stakeholder trust, and supports district priorities, and goals. Provide direct oversight of the district website, communications software, and communication initiatives while guiding the development and execution of strategies to support departments and campuses throughout the district.
Work directly with the Marketing Director to plan, develop, and manage the district's digital marketing strategy using a variety of tools and tactics, such as analytics, paid media, and SEO, to create effective campaigns that increase brand awareness, website traffic, and conversions by ensuring each campaign is optimized for maximum impact and ROI.
Work directly with the Board of Trustees and serve as technical point of contact and executive producer for all boardroom events, board meetings, and maintain relations with staff, community partners, and vendors. Requires irregular and prolonged hours on weekdays, weeknights, weekends, and holidays on an ongoing basis.
QUALIFICATIONS:Education/Certification:- Bachelor's degree in communications, information technology, management information systems, computer science, communication technology, marketing, or a related field.
Experience: - Minimum of seven (7) years of professional experience.
- Public Education experience preferred.
- Familiar with Finalsite Composer preferred.
- Experience leading a large-scale CMS migration or website redesign preferred.
Special Knowledge/Skills: - Strong technical knowledge of servers and systems administration, information architecture, user experience, digital marketing, digital accessibility (WCAG 2.1 AA), and responsive web design and development.
- Experience managing an enterprise website CMS, including user roles, templates, and publishing workflows. Knowledge of content governance for multi-site organizations.
- Experience in consulting, developing training materials, and providing in-person training.
- Strong project management, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in email marketing, SEO, ad-serving tools, social media, and website analytics.
- Experience in art directing and managing a small team of content strategists, designers, and web developers.
- Experience with visual communication tools, such as Adobe Creative Cloud, to create digital media.
- Experience with audio/visual equipment to produce live events.
- Experience with BoardBook, and other board governance software's.
- Experience with mobile app technologies and integrations.
- Ability to research, plan, execute, and evaluate new communication tools.
- Ability to detect, analyze, and solve technical problems to meet deadlines.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:I. ADMINISTRATION AND FISCAL/FACILITIES MANAGEMENT- Director of Communications department, duties, project timelines, personnel, web applications, software systems, vendor relations, and government agencies.
- Ensure that all web services comply with legal and local policies, guidelines, and standards.
- Comply with federal and state agencies and laws related to digital accessibility, copyright, student data, and privacy, and the Texas Education Agency required web postings.
- Work directly with district staff to determine long-term needs, strategies, and goals.
- Follow purchasing guidelines to acquire and secure vendor products and services to support the online operations and objectives of the district.
- Responsible for implementing the standards of appearance, structure, and content aging for all communications, web applications, and systems while providing ongoing guidance, training, and support to staff.
- Respond to public inquiries and district help tickets submitted to the Web Services department.
- Program databases and websites using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, and MySQL. (I think this comes with Finalsite).
- Responsible for the planning, development, organization, and maintenance of all online content to ensure accuracy and timeliness of information and assets across all website systems and applications submitted by departments and campuses.
- Analyze usage data reports to recommend any necessary changes.
- Provide system administration and platform support of the district's mass notification tool, website, app and serve as the main point of contact for all its contracts and vendors.
- Support the Communication & Marketing department's branding, social, and digital media activities and campaigns to ensure an engaging user experience throughout the customer journey.
- Perform keyword research and implement on-page and off-page SEO strategies while tracking organic performance. (I think this comes with Finalsite).
- Support SEM and paid advertising strategies to drive traffic that leads to conversions by creating and managing PPC campaigns from conceptualization to implementation and monitoring.
- Optimize email marketing strategies to segmented audiences and assist the marketing team in the design and execution of targeted email campaigns, including newsletters and promotional emails.
- Review analytics from all platforms, generate regular reports on KPIs, and recommend strategy changes based on data-driven results.
II. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES- Manages staff in the Communications division. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
III. SCHOOL/COMMUNITY RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT- Participate in the information gathering process as needed across the district.
IV. PROFESSIONAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT- Attend appropriate Professional Learning opportunities.
- Seek and accept comments from administrators, department heads, and other school personnel to improve the services provided.
