Full Job Description
The Director of Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) provides strategic and operational leadership for the hospital's Clinical Documentation Improvement program. This position is responsible for ensuring accurate, complete, and compliant clinical documentation that appropriately reflects the patient's clinical condition, severity of illness, complexity of care, and services provided. The Director oversees CDI operations, staff, education, physician engagement, documentation quality, performance improvement, and collaboration with Health Information Management (HIM), Coding, Case Management, Quality, Revenue Cycle, Finance, Medical Staff, and clinical leadership. The Director ensures the CDI program supports accurate clinical documentation, coding, quality reporting, regulatory compliance, appropriate reimbursement, and overall organizational goals while maintaining compliance with applicable federal and state regulations and industry standards.

REQUIREMENTS

1. Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Health Information Management, Health Administration, or a related healthcare field.

2. 1-2 years' experience in related field.

PREFERED

1. Master's degree in Nursing, Health Administration, Health Information Management, Business Administration, or a related field.

EXPERIENCE

1. Minimum of 5 years of healthcare experience.

2. Minimum of 3 years of Clinical Documentation Improvement experience.

3. Previous CDI leadership or management experience strongly preferred.

4. Experience working with hospital-based clinical documentation, coding, HIM, and revenue cycle functions.

5. Experience developing and implementing CDI programs, policies, and performance metrics.

6. Experience working with physicians and other healthcare providers regarding clinical documentation.
