Full Job Description
Role Description

The Data Governance Controls Analyst is the hands-on execution arm of the enterprise data governance function. Reporting to the Data Governance Lead, this role turns the standards, definitions, and priorities set by the Lead into implemented reality in the tooling: administering the data catalog and glossary, profiling and monitoring data quality, building and maintaining governance automation and integrations, and running the operational workflows that keep governed reporting flowing.

The role exists to support
i) the data governance team by carrying out the day-to-day build, configuration, analysis, and maintenance
ii) the design of adequate evidence for DQ controls with control owners that would satisfy audit requests
It suits someone technically strong and detail-oriented who is comfortable working from defined standards and escalating judgment calls rather than owning policy.

Key Responsibilities

Catalog & metadata operations
  • Administer the Microsoft Purview data catalog and business glossary day to day: load and maintain terms, domains, and entries in line with data governance standards.
  • Maintain metadata, lineage documentation, and versioning within the platform.

Data quality execution
  • Build, run, and maintain data quality scorecards; profile and validate data using SQL.
  • Monitor data quality metrics, flag threshold breaches, perform first-line triage and root-cause investigation, and escalate to data owners.

Governance tooling & automation
  • Develop and maintain governance tooling and integrations, including Purview automation and API integration.
  • Build and maintain workflow automations (e.g., Power Automate) supporting governance and reporting processes.

Analysis & support
  • Prepare data, tables, and supporting materials for stakeholder reviews and leadership reporting.
  • Compile and maintain control evidence (data quality control results and exception logs) to support SOC1 and audit requests
  • Document processes, configurations, and standard operating procedures.

Key Relationships
  • Data Governance Lead - manager; sets standards and priorities.
  • Business Controls, Enterprise Risk Management, Compliance, and Internal Audit -joint standard setting where data and business controls intersect
  • External tooling / integration consultants - as needed for automation and platform builds.
  • Business Data Stewards - data-level coordination and issue routing.
  • IT / Data Platform / Data Engineering - technical collaboration on ingestion, observability, and lineage.

Success Measures
  • Catalog and glossary entries maintained accurately and on schedule.
  • Data quality scorecard coverage and refresh reliability.
  • Automation uptime and measurable reduction in manual effort.
  • Turnaround time on data profiling and validation requests.
  • Control evidence complete and audit-ready when requested
  • Data issues triaged and routed within SLA.

Experience and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Data Management, Information Systems, Computer Science, Analytics, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 2-5 years in data management, data quality, business intelligence/analytics, or data engineering.
  • Strong SQL skills for data profiling and validation.
  • Hands-on experience with a data catalog, metadata, or data quality tool (Microsoft Purview strongly preferred; Collibra, Informatica, or Alation an asset).
  • Experience with workflow automation (e.g., Power Automate) and comfort with REST APIs and integration work.
  • Microsoft Fabric and/or Power BI experience an asset.
  • Detail-oriented with strong documentation discipline.
  • Experience in real estate, investment management, or financial services an asset.
  • Able to work from defined standards and translate between technical detail and governance requirements.
  • Awareness of internal controls or audit-evidence concepts (e.g., SOC1, ITGCs) an asset
  • Familiarity with DAMA-DMBOK concepts an asset.
