We're hiring! Johnson Controls is seeking a Control Systems Engineer to support the design, development, application engineering, optimization, manufacturing support, and field support of active magnetic bearing (AMB) control systems for our JCI-Synchrony Engineering team! This position is onsite at our Salem, VA, facility. Candidates must be commuting distance or be able to relocate. Various relocation packages are available.
How you will do it - Provide commissioning and field support services for AMB systems, including initial setup, remote monitoring, optimization, and troubleshooting
- Perform rotodynamic analysis for new AMB-supported machinery
- Provide hands-on testing support for new magnetic bearing features, software, and manufacturability improvements
- Provide hands-on troubleshooting support for magnetic bearing manufacturing and installation problems
- Support MBC control algorithm development and control system architecture modifications
What you will need
Required - Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a closely related field
- 2+ years' experience in an engineering or manufacturing setting. Internships, co-op work, and graduate laboratory research work will be considered as experience
- Control theory
- Rotordynamics and vibration theory
- Dynamic analysis and testing experience with machinery equipment
- Software development
- Familiarity working with hand tools and basic electrical instruments
- Able to investigate root causes across a wide range of engineering disciplines, including electrical, controls, mechanical, thermal, etc., and implement countermeasures
Preferred- Master's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a closely related field
- C, MATLAB, and/or Python
- Industry experience: turbomachinery, rotating machinery, including rigid and flexible shafts
HIRING SALARY RANGE: $85,000 - $120,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, location and alignment with market data.)
