Full Job Description
This position reports to:
Engineering Manager

The work model for the role is: Onsite, Richmond, VA

Your role and responsibilities:

In this role as Component Engineer - Mechanical and Engineering Parts, you will play a key part in supporting the performance and reliability of our active product portfolio, primarily focused on UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply), PDU (Power Distribution Units), and STS (Static Transfer Switches) within the Data Center segment. You will serve as the responsible design authority for the Mechanical and engineering discipline, ensuring the quality, cost-effectiveness, and production readiness of components used across these products. Your responsibilities will include component maintenance, technical evaluations, and close collaboration with cross-functional teams including R&D, Supply Chain Management (SCM), Quality and Production. In addition to your technical leadership, you will demonstrate your expertise by ensuring that all assignments are completed in alignment with contract specifications, quality standards, safety requirements, and applicable regulatory policies and standards.

You will be mainly accountable for:
• Assessing the quality, reliability, and compatibility of different components through testing, analysis, and collaboration with engineering and suppliers.
• Perform feasibility study and internal estimation cost for the manufacturing parts; Perform supplier capability and capacity analysis to make sourcing decisions and recommendations.
• Develop guidelines/procedures on component selection. Evaluate supplier change or EOL notification as needed; Maintain component data management systems including qualification records/results/documentation.
• Collaborate with P&L and quality to ensure suppliers meet quality and delivery

requirements, resolving any issues related to component manufacturing, and

identifying potential alternative suppliers; Lead Make vs. Buy decision analyses and support outside processing management when outsourcing is desired.

Qualifications for the role:
Bachelor degree in manufacturing/mechanical engineering or related engineering discipline PLUS minimum of 3 years of experience in Manufacturing Engineering and/or tool development.
Solid understanding of manufacturing processes and techniques for mechanical components, including sheet metal, copper, plastic, and aluminum.
• Experience with evaluation and qualification of mechanical and engineering

component manufacturers.
• Ability to discuss designs with suppliers to optimize designs for manufacture and assessing supplier capabilities.
• Ability to analyze material cost breakdowns and accuracy based on market values through strong analytical skills.
• Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work with

engineering, SMC and suppliers to ensure technical requirements are met.
• Experience with SAP and or Windchill PLM systems preferred.
• Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.
