Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Director of Nursing (CHC), the Clinical Nurse, RN - Nurse Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating nursing processes that promote quality patient care and efficient health center operations.

The Nurse Manager provides leadership and supervision to nursing and medical assistant staff while ensuring adherence to organizational policies, procedures, and quality standards. This role partners with the Health Center Director and Medical Director to promote timely, patient-centered care and efficient patient flow throughout the health center.

The Nurse Manager also supports staff development, competency assessment, quality improvement, infection control, clinical operations, and coordination of key health center programs. The position requires strong clinical judgment, communication skills, organizational abilities, and a commitment to serving diverse and underserved populations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the health center management team to ensure quality patient care.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate nursing processes that promote quality care and positive patient flow.
  • Partner with the Medical Director and Health Center Director on quality improvement initiatives.
  • Provide supervision and leadership to RN, LPN, Medical Assistant, and Nursing Assistant staff.
  • Assist the Dental Director with the supervision of Dental Assistants.
  • Coordinate daily, weekly, and monthly schedules and assignments for nursing staff.
  • Manage site orientation for newly hired nursing employees.
  • Coordinate and manage annual competency assessments.
  • Conduct ongoing performance evaluations and provide feedback to nursing staff.
  • Collaborate with the Triage Nurse to ensure appropriate disposition of patients with urgent needs.
  • Monitor and manage nursing patient flow to support established timeframes.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate educational programs for nursing staff.
  • Provide direct patient care as needed to support efficient health center operations.
  • Coordinate the health center Vaccine Program.
  • Coordinate laboratory functions within the health center.
  • Oversee daily and weekly clinical log checks.
  • Manage floor-stock medications at the health center.
  • Coordinate annual emergency training in collaboration with Medical and Clinical Leadership.
  • Serve as the on-site nursing liaison for the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  • Manage annual infection control competency assessments.
  • Serve as a nursing liaison to other departments, services, and outside agencies on behalf of the health center.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.
  • Current RN license in the District of Columbia or eligibility for DC licensure.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of management experience.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of recent clinical nursing experience preferred, particularly in medical-surgical, emergency care, intensive care, or urgent care settings.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize activities and manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
  • Strong judgment and interpersonal skills when working with diverse populations.
  • Experience working with underserved or other special-needs populations preferred.
  • Ability to demonstrate and support Unity Health Care's mission through daily work.
