Full Job Description
Job Description:

The Binghamton, NY site Buyer will sit in Norwood, MA and be responsible for ensuring materials, components, supplies, equipment, and services meet the delivery schedule, quality standard, and most favorable costs for scope involving Instron Static's Binghamton, NY site.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Places Purchase Orders to ensure inventory availability for production
  • Revises purchase orders to reflect proper vendor delivery dates in Instron's ERP system
  • Maintains contact with suppliers, to ensure that materials and services arrive on time and to the quality standards to meet production schedule objectives.
  • Maintains regular correspondence to expedite critical purchase items
  • Coordinates activities in partnership with Instron Engineering to resolve technical issues or problems that suppliers may have with engineering information.
  • Handles adjustments with vendors involving replacement of materials not conforming to purchase specifications, return of material declared surplus, cancellations of orders, etc.
  • Advises appropriate stakeholders of delivery deviations that impact inventory availability for production
  • Publish metrics on Vendor on time performance along with root cause / corrective action progress.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time


Skills Required/Preferred
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent purchasing/operations experience
  • Strong acumen in business and basic mathematical functions
  • Cross category purchasing experience (e.g machined, fabricated, cable assemblies, electronics, etc.)
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams and departments
  • Must be proficient in MS Excel (e.g. Pivot tables, LOOKUP functions, sorting, formula development, etc.)
  • Proficiency with AI chatbots such as MS Copilot
  • Experience with Kanban inventories
  • Must be proficient in enterprise level inventory planning, product lifecycle, supply chain intelligence, and collaboration software (e.g. SAP, IFS, Agile, PDM, SharePoint, etc.)

Compensation Information:

This position has a starting salary range of $82,560 to $103,200 per year. Pay is determined by several factors, including a candidate's experience, relevant skills, and qualifications
