GENERAL OVERVIEW:

This role will be responsible for communication for the reading rooms, workflow and image management, information dissemination, and administrative support.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform management responsibilities to include, but not limited to: involved in hiring and termination decisions, coaching and development, rewards and recognition, performance management and staff productivity. Plan, organize, staff, and manage the day-to-day operations of the team; develop and implement policies and programs as necessary; manage to assigned budgets. (25%)
• Manage the AHN radiation safety program (15%)
• Ensure the safe use of ionizing radiation at AHN facilities for patients, staff and visitor radiation safety(10%)
• Provide essential professional support to ensure compliance with PA DEP, TJC, FDA, CMS and DOH regulations (10%)
• Assume responsibilities in departmental Radiation Safety Officer's absence (10%)
• Direct Patient Care Activities - Therapeutic and diagnostic patient administrations of unsealed and sealed radioactive material(s) (10%)
• Radiation Emergency Response - Provide leadership and technical guidance in response to internal and external radiation emergencies including but not limited to, radioactive contamination monitoring, decontamination, and documentation and emergency event analysis(10%)
• Provide oversight and guidance to Radiation Physics support staff involved in radiation safety activities and responsibilities (10%)
• Other duties as assigned or requested.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Health Physics, Medical Physics, Physics, or Biomedical Engineering.
• 5 years of experience in management of radiation safety program and regulatory compliance activities, as well as meeting the requirements of qualified radiation expert/RSO per regulatory definitions
• 3 years of experience in management or leadership role

Preferred

• Master's degree in Health Physics or Medical Physics
• Certified Health Physicist 6 American Board of Health Physics (ABHP) or Diagnostic Medical Physics 6 American Board of Radiology (ABR) or Nuclear Medical Physics 6 American Board of Radiology (ABR)

SKILLS:

• Strong working knowledge of current regulations related to a radiation safety program
• Experience working in radiation safety utilizing radiation materials and radiation-producing equipment for medical diagnosis and therapy, and/or academic and research purposes
• Demonstrated experience developing and delivering training designed to protect institutions, laboratory, and other personnel from radiation hazards.
• Knowledge of transport and disposal procedures for safe handling of radioactive materials and/or disposal of radiation-producing equipment
• Knowledge of radiation safety procedures, standards, and protocols
• Ability to develop, implement, and enforce safety programs and protocols
• Knowledge of radioactive materials and/or radiation-producing equipment inventory control, shielding designs, waste handling procedures, dosimetry, and/or licensing requirements
• Ability to provide technical guidance and leadership to professional personnel in area of expertise
• Ability to operate radiation detection instruments and other relevant radiation physics test equipment
• Ability to develop safety procedures and protocols
