Job Description:

Clyde & Co is seeking a highly motivated attorney in Chicago with 2 - 5 years of experience in disputes, for a complex international involving liability defense and coverage litigation. This practice includes high exposure insurance coverage, catastrophic injury cases, bodily injury, wrongful death, commercial litigation, premise liability, bad faith and fraud, UM/UIM, class action and trucking and transportation matters. The ideal candidate has litigation and trial experience, experience with various insurance policy forms, is proactive, motivated, creative and organized and possesses superior oral argument, research and writing skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Willingness to deal with liability and coverage matters
  • Manage a caseload of about 20 matters
  • Actively investigate claims and prepare case handling strategies
  • Draft, respond and manage discovery
  • Take and defend depositions of parties, fact witnesses, treaters and experts
  • Draft and argue motions
  • Prepare cases for mediation/trial including drafting pre-trial documents
  • Participate in mediation/trial
  • Actively and effectively report to our clients
  • Manage and supervise associates and paralegals

Essential Skills & Experience

German speaking, and/or European experience is a plus. The position involves representation of international and domestic insurers with regards to all manner of liability policies, including fidelity, directors and officers, employment, professional, property, excess and commercial general liability policies. What you'll do:

  • Represent clients in high-stakes disputes.
  • Work on non-insurance liability defense matters.
  • Analyze rights and obligations under insurance policies, draft coverage opinions, and provide coverage advice to clients.
  • Conduct legal research, analyze findings, and draft memoranda.
  • Prepare and analyze pleadings, discovery, motions, supporting briefs, and legal correspondence regarding insurance coverage litigation.
  • Meet and confer with clients, opposing counsel, and other parties.
  • Attend depositions, hearings, and mediations.
  • Take a proactive role in managing matters, deadlines, and communication with clients.

The salary range for this position is $165,000-$190,000. The range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. It is not typical for an individual to be hired near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
