Job Summary/Basic Function:

The Academic Director of Experiential Learning is a full time administrative and academic leader who acts as the primary liaison between the Life and Career Design Institute (LCDI) and Academic Affairs. Reporting to the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, the primary role of the Academic Director of Experiential Learning will be to work in collaboration with faculty and staff to expand existing experiential pathways at the College, and develop new opportunities for students by leveraging assets from the Compass Curriculum, coursework, and support structures.

Core responsibilities include: Preparing First- and Second-Year students for self-directed and experiential learning through courses and programs, and guiding students through a four-year engagement with the LCDI.

Essential Functions:

  • Expand the new credit-bearing internship course across all programs of the College and collaborating with the Director of Experiential Education and External Engagement about possible host sites


  • Create stand-alone seminars developed in collaboration with LCDI and Academic Advising focused on professional skill development


  • Partner with faculty to integrate experiential learning into existing courses, or design new courses that meet experiential learning goals (e.g., new Sophomore Experience courses)


  • Develop experiential learning "mini modules" that can be used by faculty in existing courses


  • Other responsibilities include organizing and participating in events and internal campaigns designed to boost student awareness of opportunities and resources (e.g., advising events and career fairs) and regularly assessing experiential programs and practices; communicating with faculty about LCDI initiatives and receiving their feedback and requests for support


  • Other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree and 5-10 years of teaching experience in higher education as well as a background in career preparation and experiences such as internships and externships and leadership in institutional service, or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Doctoral Degree

When determining and establishing hiring rates or recruitment ranges for a position, the College considers a number of factors including the budget for the position, the range of the grade, the external market for the position or similar positions, level and scope of responsibilities, required education, skills and relevant experience as well as internal equity. All salary offers must have the prior approval of the Office of Human Resources.

The anticipated hiring or recruitment range for this position is $90-100K. The actual salary offered will be commensurate with the qualifications, education and experience of the candidate hired.
