Full Job Description

VPII, Corporate Strategy Lead

LPL Financial is seeking a high-performing VPII, Corporate StrategyLead to join the Corporate Strategy team. This role will report to the SVP, Head of Corporate Strategy & Pricing and will help shape the firm’s long-term strategic agenda, translate complex market and business dynamics into executive-ready recommendations, and lead high-priority initiatives that materially impact LPL’s growth, competitive positioning, operating model, and enterprise value.

The ideal candidate will bring the structured problem-solving, analytical rigor, executive communication, and project leadership skills typically developed at a top-tier management consulting firm, with experience comparable to a Senior Manager, Engagement Manager, Principal, Associate Partner, or early Junior Partner level. This individual should be senior enough to independently lead complex strategy workstreams and influence executives, while still operating as a hands-on strategy leader who can personally structure problems, develop analyses, build narratives, and coach junior team members.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead enterprise strategy initiatives: Own and drive strategic projects that address LPL’s most important opportunities and risks, including corporate growth, competitive positioning, advisor and end-client value propositions, operating model evolution, AI-enabled transformation, pricing strategy, M&A strategy, and adjacent market expansion.
  • Shape executive decision-making: Frame ambiguous strategic questions, develop fact-based recommendations, and translate complex analysis into clear, practical options for senior executives, Management Committee members, and Board-level discussions.
  • Build strategic narratives: Create compelling storylines and executive-ready materials that simplify complexity, clarify tradeoffs, and help leaders align on strategy, investment priorities, and execution paths.
  • Drive cross-functional alignment: Partner with business lines, Finance, Technology, Product, Legal, Risk, Transformation, Corporate Development, and other senior stakeholders to ensure strategic recommendations are grounded in business realities and connected to execution.
  • Advance competitive and market intelligence: Monitor the evolving wealth management landscape, advisor and end-client needs, new entrants, AI-driven disruption, monetization models, and competitor moves to identify implications for LPL’s strategy.
  • Develop strategic options and business cases: Lead market sizing, financial modeling, scenario analysis, strategic option development, and risk assessment to support major enterprise decisions.
  • Support Board and executive strategy sessions: Contribute to the development of Board, Management Committee, and senior leadership materials, including annual strategy sessions, strategic updates, and decision-oriented pre-reads.
  • Manage and develop strategy talent: Lead project teams, coach analysts and managers, raise the quality of problem-solving and communication, and help build Corporate Strategy as a talent feeder for broader leadership roles across LPL.
  • Translate strategy into execution: Work with partners across the firm to convert strategic recommendations into roadmaps, governance models, operating rhythms, success metrics, and implementation plans.

What are we looking for?

We’re looking for strong collaborators who deliver exceptional client experiences and thrive in fast-paced, team-oriented environments. Our ideal candidates pursue greatness, act with integrity, and are driven to help our clients succeed. We value those who embrace creativity, continuous improvement, and contribute to a culture where we win together and create and share joy in our work.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, finance, strategy, engineering, liberal arts, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of professional experience in strategy consulting, corporate strategy, business strategy, corporate development, strategic finance, or a comparable strategy-oriented role.
  • Significant experience at a top-tier management consulting firm or equivalent environment, with experience comparable to Senior Manager, Engagement Manager, Principal, Associate Partner, or early Junior Partner level.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex strategy projects from problem definition through recommendation and executive alignment.
  • Strong financial and analytical capabilities, including business case development, market sizing, scenario analysis, and executive-level synthesis.

Core Competencies:
  • Strategic problem solving: Structures ambiguous questions, develops hypotheses, and identifies the highest-value path to insight.
  • Executive communication: Converts complex analysis into concise, compelling messages for senior audiences.
  • Business judgment: Balances growth, economics, client impact, risk, and execution feasibility.
  • Analytical rigor: Uses data, market intelligence, and financial analysis to support recommendations.
  • Stakeholder influence: Builds alignment across leaders with different objectives, incentives, and operating realities.
  • Team leadership: Sets direction, manages workstreams, develops talent, and raises the quality of team output.
  • Execution orientation: Connects strategy to roadmaps, owners, metrics, and operating mechanisms.
  • Enterprise mindset: Prioritizes what is best for LPL overall, not just an individual function or business line.

Preferrences:
  • MBA or advanced degree from a top-tier program.
  • Experience in wealth management, brokerage, asset management, banking, fintech, insurance, or another financial services sector.
  • Experience working on pricing strategy, M&A strategy, platform strategy, AI or digital transformation, operating model redesign, or advisor/client experience strategy.
  • Experience preparing materials for C-suite, Management Committee, Board of Directors, or investor-facing discussions.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop strategies that connect external market shifts to internal business model implications.
  • Experience operating in both consulting and corporate environments.

Pay Range:

$178,293.00 - $297,155.00
Actual base salary varies based on factors, including but not limited to, relevant skill, prior experience, education, base salary of internal peers, demonstrated performance, and geographic location.
