Description Your Role in helping us shape the future: U.S. News' Health franchise is expanding its footprint in healthcare data and analytics - building benchmarking tools, predictive insights and data products that are built on top of the industry leading ratings and rankings foundation. This role will help to lead that evolution: owning the analytics that make rankings and health data usable to health systems and adjacent segments, and setting the data and AI strategy for everything the business builds beyond the core rankings pipeline.
This is a market facing analytics leadership role. This role decides what data assets and analytics use cases will fulfill the market's unmet needs, prioritizes them against commercial value, and coordinates with product and tech to define requirements and build. The role is the voice of the customer and is deeply embedded in the healthcare industry.
Are you up to the challenge? Commercial Data Products - Build and maintain the analytics behind licensed data products, benchmarking tools, and client-facing dashboards. Direct and supervise data analysts working with patient-level claims data both inside and outside the CMS VRDC environment.
- Work across product and methodology teams to translate methodological outputs and entire data sets (risk-adjusted rates, composite scores, percentile rankings) into client-facing metrics that are intuitive without misrepresenting what they mean.
- Partner with Product Management to scope new analytics-driven offerings based on client demand and market gaps.
Data Strategy & Use Case Prioritization - Be the voice of the customer to define new analytics use cases for data outside the rankings pipeline: what should exist as a client-facing product, an internal insight tool, or a future bet, and in what order.
- Identify and prioritize new data assets worth acquiring or partnering for (claims, SDOH, consumer/behavioral, KOL data) based on what would unlock new products, client value, or competitive advantage - and build the business case for them.
- Own the data pipeline requirements and prioritization that the engineering team executes against.
- Evaluate vendor and data-partnership options (build vs. buy, licensing terms, data quality), working with legal/compliance, methodology teams, product and engineering on execution.
- Track which data investments are actually paying off - usage, client value, revenue - and sunset or reprioritize ones that aren't.
AI Strategy & Acceleration - Lead the development of new, innovative analytics and AI/ML/Data Science solutions (predictive, prescriptive, and real-world-evidence models) across healthcare markets, building the business case for each against non-AI alternatives.
- Track competitive use of AI in healthcare benchmarking/ratings and bring point-of-view recommendations to leadership on where U.S. News should lead vs. follow.
Cross-Functional Leadership - Manage a team of data scientists and analysts focused on market demand, client deliverables, and data strategy.
- Represent Applied Analytics in product roadmap planning as a standing voice, not a downstream builder - surfacing both market-driven and data-driven opportunities.
- Represent Applied Analytics during methodology review and planning as voice of the market - surfacing both market-driven and data-driven opportunities.
Sales & Client Support - Support sales and business development with custom analyses, benchmarking cuts, and "what does this number mean for us" briefings during the sales cycle.
- Build reusable analytic assets (templated peer comparisons, trend analyses, gap-to-target reports) that sales and client success can deploy across prospects and accounts.
- Field client questions about their own performance and what's driving it, escalating anything that touches methodology validity rather than answering it directly.
Position Requirements You should definitely have: - Minimum 10 years in healthcare analytics, business intelligence, or client-facing data/analytics roles, ideally supporting data products.
- Prior experience at a healthcare benchmarking, analytics, consulting, or data-licensing company.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience required.
- Strong SQL and BI tool fluency (Tableau, Power BI, or similar); comfortable owning dashboards and data pipelines for commercial products.
- Experience translating complex or technical data into client-ready deliverables - reports, presentations, self-service tools.
- Track record supporting sales, business development, or client success teams with custom analysis under time pressure.
- Team leadership experience managing data scientists and analysts
- Experience with healthcare quality measurement concepts (risk adjustment, benchmarking, percentile rankings) sufficient to use methodology outputs correctly - without needing to design or defend the methodology itself.
- Experience building or scaling a licensed data product from early-stage to broad commercial adoption.
- Familiarity with hospital sales cycles and how health-system data/quality departments evaluate benchmarking tools.
