Full Job Description
The Position

As Vice President, you will serve as LMI's authority on how investments behave inside an insurance balance sheet. You will work with investment teams to propose structuring guidance, and work with Liberty's regulatory and accounting teams to bring a business perspective to interpretation, ensuring commercial objectives and technical prudence are weighed together. You will monitor regulatory, accounting, and industry trends, events, activities, and emerging structures, both to identify new opportunities for Liberty and to flag changes that may affect existing investments and current asset allocation. Working with the regulatory, accounting, and legal teams to understand the issues, you will be responsible for management actions that address needed changes in the current portfolio and for proposing emerging investment opportunities. While the regulatory, accounting, legal, and capital teams hold responsibility for final interpretations, it is this position's role to bring all relevant aspects together, in partnership with Portfolio Managers, to craft the business case for management actions on the existing portfolio and the business case for new opportunities. This role offers significant visibility with senior leaders and a unique opportunity to shape investment strategy at enterprise scale, which is critical to LMI's success given today's rapidly evolving insurance regulatory, accounting, and investment landscape.

Responsibilities

Insurance Statutory Accounting & Regulatory Frameworks

  • Serve as GSCA's subject-matter expert on statutory accounting (SAP/SSAP), NAIC reporting, RBC treatment, SVO filings, and rating agency capital frameworks as they apply to investments.
  • Work with Liberty's regulatory and accounting teams to bring a business perspective to interpretation, ensuring commercial objectives and technical prudence are weighed together, and provide a strategic investment lens to total company portfolio design and to the assessment of new investment opportunities and structures.
  • Assess and communicate the statutory accounting, regulatory capital, and rating agency treatment of new and existing investments across the General Account, in partnership with regulatory and accounting teams, recognizing that final interpretations rest with the regulatory, accounting, legal, and capital teams.
  • Monitor U.S. insurance regulatory developments, NAIC initiatives, statutory accounting changes, and rating agency criteria; translate them into actionable recommendations for portfolio design and legal entity strategy.
  • Partner with Investment, Risk, Operations, Compliance, Legal, and Financial Reporting teams to embed insurance regulatory and accounting considerations into new products, asset classes, and portfolio strategies. Lead cross-functional initiatives.

Industry Investment Strategies & Trends

  • Monitor regulatory, accounting, and industry trends, events, activities, and emerging structures to identify new opportunities for Liberty and to flag changes that may affect existing investments and current asset allocation.
  • Monitor broad insurance industry investment strategies, asset allocation trends, and market developments, producing executive-ready insights for the CIO, GSCA, and Liberty Group Finance.
  • Identify emerging industry investment trends (new asset classes, structures, and capital solutions gaining adoption across insurance general accounts) and assess their relevance for Liberty.
  • Deliver industry insight as a direct input into capital allocation decisions and investment risk posture.

New Investment Structures, Opportunities & Management Actions

  • Work with investment teams to propose structuring guidance for new investment opportunities, ensuring insurance treatment is considered from inception.
  • Evaluate new and emerging investment structures and opportunities for capital efficiency and fit within Liberty's insurance balance sheets, spanning regulatory, solvency, statutory accounting, and rating agency dimensions.
  • Work with the regulatory, accounting, and legal teams to understand emerging issues; take responsibility for management actions to address changes needed in the current portfolio, including adapting existing investment structures to maintain long-term portfolio viability.
  • Bring all relevant aspects together (regulatory, accounting, legal, capital, and investment) in partnership with Portfolio Managers to craft the business case for management actions on the existing portfolio and the business case for new and emerging investment opportunities.
  • Support GSCA initiatives with research and analytical depth related to regulatory, accounting, or market shifts.

AI, Automation, and Tool-Building

  • Direct the development of AI-driven tools leveraging LLMs, APIs, and modern data platforms to scale insight generation, judgment leverage, scenario analysis, and regulatory and industry trend monitoring, and further expand efficiency.
Qualifications

Domain & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, mathematics, or related field; advanced degree, CPA, or CFA a plus.
  • 10–15 years of experience in insurance investments, insurance finance, regulatory or statutory accounting, banking, consulting, or related fields, with meaningful exposure to regulated financial institutions.
  • Deep expertise in insurance statutory accounting (SAP/SSAP), NAIC reporting and RBC frameworks, and rating agency capital models; direct insurance company or insurance-focused experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated fluency across regulatory regimes relevant to a global insurer (e.g., NAIC/RBC, Solvency II, Bermuda BSCR) and their implications for investment strategy.
  • Strong understanding of asset allocation, general account portfolio management, and both traditional and alternative asset classes.

Analytical & Investment Skills

  • Experience evaluating investment structures (e.g., rated feeder notes, CLOs, CFOs, asset-backed finance) for insurance balance sheet fit a plus; the emphasis is on regulatory, accounting, and capital treatment rather than deal structuring.
  • Exceptional analytical skills, strategic thinking, and problem-solving capability.

Technology & Tools

  • Familiarity with LLMs (e.g., ChatGPT), Python, Excel, and PowerPoint; familiarity with modern data architectures (e.g., Snowflake). Direct experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Bloomberg, BlackRock Aladdin, Power BI, VBA, or other financial and analytical tools is a plus.

Leadership & Communication

  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and communicate complex regulatory and accounting topics clearly to senior stakeholders.
  • Outstanding business acumen, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple high-priority projects under tight timelines.
  • Superior communication and listening skills; able to translate complex issues into clear, actionable narratives to influence and persuade a broad range of partners.
