UX Researcher
Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is looking for a UX researcher to join the UX Studio Team of Vehicle Software
The Position:
The UX Researcher would plan, conduct, facilitate, and manage user research in the American context via a user-centered process. Additionally, the UX Researcher would support the UX design process by delivering insights from users' behaviors concerning their expectations and unspoken needs in the automotive context, linking marketing, engineering/technology, and social/human science with a holistic approach to design in a fast-paced agile environment for the new mobility transition period involving electric vehicles, autonomous driving, and innovative transportation solutions.
What You Will Do:
Discover user needs and draw insights to design innovative features that could impact the automobile user experience for future Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis vehicles
Support listening, ideation, prototyping, and evaluation efforts through the iterative UX design process and Agile practices
Moderate qualitative user studies to understand users' behaviors, needs, and goals through preliminary context-of-use research, such as design ethnography, contextual inquiry, in-depth interviews, and participatory design
Design quantitative user research, referencing literature, prior works, competitor reviews, research designs, survey/experimental instrument designs, data curation and analysis plans, and findings into design insights for applications that could improve vehicle UX
Describe interaction models between users and vehicle controllers and logic for developers by organizing and optimizing insights from human behaviors into UX requirements through state diagrams, workflows, flowcharts, service blueprints, code, or other procedural forms
Travel up to 20% of the time, both domestically and internationally
What You Will Bring to the Role:
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in industrial design, industrial engineering, human-computer interaction/human factors, cognitive psychology/ergonomics, computer science, or a related field
Experience in supporting process-based product research through design with evaluative and generative design methods
Solid understanding of UX design principles and research methods
Ability to collect and analyze qualitative and quantitative user data
Ability to be flexible and creative, using analytical and creative problem-solving in design research and user testing
Portfolio with at least three works on UX design and research that demonstrate one's leadership and direct involvement in each step of user research, requirement analysis, ideation, prototyping, and testing in the iterative UX design process
Ability to explain technical topics to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Proficiency in basic visualization, prototyping, and documentation tools, such as Figma, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
Excellent time management, self-management, and organization skills
Strong written, oral, visual, presentation, and interpersonal skills
Flexibility with program and process changes. Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis may make late changes to satisfy customer needs.
Preferred Qualifications:
Graduate degree in industrial design, industrial engineering, human-computer interaction/human factors, cognitive psychology/ergonomics, computer science, or a related field
