What you'll do...
Role summary:
The (USA) Software Engineer III plays a critical role in designing, developing, and delivering scalable software solutions by collaborating with cross-functional teams including product management and user experience. This position involves troubleshooting complex issues, performing root cause analysis, and ensuring high-quality code through rigorous testing and continuous integration practices. The engineer will manage project requirements, contribute to technical design, and support ongoing maintenance while mentoring small engineering groups. A strong focus on innovation, technical excellence, and timely delivery is essential to drive business value and enhance platform capabilities.
About the team:
The Atlas WMS team manages the platform end-to-end, developing systems that direct inbound freight, optimize inventory slotting, and enhance picking and packing for millions of weekly orders. The team supports associate workflows and integrates advanced robotics and automation technologies. Operating at an unmatched scale, Atlas processes a vast volume of daily transactions, supporting tens of thousands of associates and ensuring timely order fulfillment. This team addresses complex engineering challenges to build foundational technology that drives the operations of the world's largest retailer, delivering immediate impact on warehouse efficiency and customer satisfaction.
What you'll do:
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define high-level designs and translate requirements into technical solutions.
  • Develop, test, and maintain scalable, secure, and high-quality code following coding standards and best practices.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production and business issues through root cause analysis and effective problem-solving.
  • Lead small engineering groups by providing guidance, documentation, and mentorship to ensure timely project delivery.
  • Implement automation scripts and telemetry features to support continuous integration and deployment processes.
  • Monitor application performance, conduct maintenance activities, and evaluate change requests for feasibility and impact.
  • Support business users by addressing technical inquiries and recommending sustainable solutions aligned with business goals.

What you'll bring:
  • Proven experience in software design, development, and delivery within Agile environments.
  • Strong proficiency in object-oriented programming and coding languages such as JavaScript, Python, or Java.
  • Web development experience, knowledgeable in JavaScript frameworks.
  • Experience with relational or NoSQL databases
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, debug, and resolve complex technical issues effectively.
  • Experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines and automation scripting.
  • Knowledge of platform design, API development, and component services to build scalable solutions.
  • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally to translate requirements into technical solutions.
  • Skilled in test case creation, execution, and defect management to ensure high-quality software delivery.
  • Experience mentoring and guiding small engineering teams to achieve project goals.

The annual salary range for this position is $90,000.00 - $180,000.00

Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
