Role summary:

As a Principal Software Engineer, you will lead the design and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, driving technical excellence across multiple teams. This role requires expertise in cloud-native architecture, distributed systems, and AI/ML integration to build intelligent software solutions that serve millions. You will provide strategic technical guidance, foster innovation, and ensure alignment with long-term platform goals. Collaborating with cross-functional partners, you will translate complex business needs into actionable engineering plans while promoting continuous improvement and operational excellence throughout the software development lifecycle.
About the team:
The Wibey Core team is a dedicated group of engineers responsible for designing and operating the intelligence layer behind Wibey, Walmart's AI super agent for builders. This team integrates advanced AI technologies with large-scale platform engineering to solve complex challenges that deliver measurable value daily. They emphasize scalable, cloud-native architectures and collaborate across disciplines to develop reliable, high-impact solutions. Committed to technical excellence, the team drives innovation, rigorous design, and continuous improvement, ensuring their work effectively supports the evolving needs of Walmart's builder community with efficiency and precision.
What you'll do:
  • Lead platform engineering efforts to deliver complex AI orchestration systems connecting multiple AI agents, MCP servers, and context pipelines with stateful, secure contextual understanding across Wibey interfaces.
  • Architect and implement systems optimized for real-time data processing and AI/ML integration, driving the full SDLC from POC to production.
  • Deliver technical roadmaps, author and review ADRs, and partner with engineering and product teams to translate business needs and architectural direction into clear requirements and measurable outcomes.
  • Provide technical leadership to other engineers, mentoring, promoting best practices, architectural consistency, and accelerating their contributions to Wibey.
  • Foster continuous improvement through innovation, knowledge sharing, and adoption AI-native engineering practices.

What you'll bring:
  • Extensive experience in platform engineering, delivering scalable, cloud-native architectures and reusable tooling.
  • Proven expertise in software development lifecycle management, including CI/CD, testing, and incident response.
  • Strong proficiency in AI/ML integration and full stack development in NodeJS, Python, React, Java, Spring or similar.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams, mentor engineers, and influence architectural decisions.
  • Solid understanding of context and memory management in AI applications, including vector databases, embeddings, and session-state design.
  • Exceptional collaboration and communication skills to engage cross-functional stakeholders and drive alignment.
