AIG is seeking a Casualty Underwriting Specialist to contribute to their industry leading Commercial Casualty underwriting team. AIG prides itself as staying ahead of the curve and is looking for forward thinking and inventive underwriters to navigate a constantly changing global, economic and geopolitical landscape. Areas of focus will be around designing insurance programs for the larger and more complex clients in the Canadian market. In this role, you will be responsible for underwriting and servicing an existing renewal book as well as soliciting new business opportunities. This role includes constant interaction with top brokers. AIG’s casualty client base consists of Fortune 1,000 companies as well as any customer seeking solutions for international casualty exposures.
How you will create an impact:
- The role will be responsible for underwriting customer exposure in the General Casualty segment of the commercial casualty portfolio across primary, international and excess lines.
- Communicate risk appetite and casualty value proposition to brokers.
- Collaborate with distribution and other line(s) of business underwriters to target desirable accounts and cross selling opportunities from brokers.
- Rapidly evaluate, prioritize and select submissions to be underwritten.
- Work with brokers to understand deal structures, terms, and AIG Services that best meets clients’ needs.
- Negotiate pricing, terms & conditions, and deal structure with brokers and clients.
- Participate in special underwriting projects as needed.
- Develop strong, long-term relationships with brokers and clients to profitably grow a book of business.
- Working with their manager, develop an individual business plan that is in line with product strategies.
- Responsible for maintaining risk selection in adherence with product guidelines and for achieving rate, renewal retention and new business goals.
- Ensuring all files are well documented and comply with departmental requirements.
- Recognize and create cross-selling opportunities for other AIG General Insurance products.
- Provide mentoring and training to other underwriters.
- Provide superior customer service to brokers and clients.
What we are looking for:
- Minimum 5+ years of Commercial Casualty experience.
- Bachelor’s degree from a college or university, preferred.
- Proven ability to build and maintain strong professional relationships.
- Advanced working knowledge of lines of business in a specific Casualty line of business including product features, forms, regulatory environments and risks etc. (i.e. Primary, Excess, International Casualty).
- Demonstrated sales, marketing, and relationship building experience.
- Very strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Highly motivated and results-oriented.
- Ability to work in dynamic, rapidly changing environment, adapting to changing requirements and collaborating with a wide range of colleagues to quickly deliver solutions.
- Willingness to be flexible, learn on the job, and maintain a can-do attitude.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Comfort with analytical tools and technology.
- A desire to stay up to date with industry, legal & regulatory trends.

The base salary range for this position is $85,000-$116,000 and the position is eligible for a bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable incentive plan. Your actual compensation will be dependent on your skills, experience, and qualifications.
