Tooling Engineer

Location: Montreal, Quebec

JOB OVERVIEW

FTAI Aviation's Innovation Group is the company's strategic engine for developing next-generation aviation technologies. The team supports daily operations while driving improvement initiatives that accelerate both financial and technological growth.

We are currently seeking a Tooling Engineer to support FTAI's aeroderivative engine development program. In this role, you will play a critical part in the introduction of new engine components by designing specialized tooling, supporting new-make parts, and providing manufacturing input early in the design process to ensure efficient and repeatable production.

This position offers a unique opportunity to work closely with design, manufacturing, and shop floor teams on cutting-edge engine programs from concept through production.

Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop specialized tooling for the manufacturing, assembly, inspection, and maintenance of aeroderivative engine components.
  • Collaborate closely with design engineers to ensure new part concepts are manufacturable and aligned with tooling and production capabilities.
  • Support the introduction of new part designs, including the development of fixtures, jigs, gauges, lifting devices, and shop aids.
  • Create detailed technical documentation such as CAD models, drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
  • Validate tooling through fit checks, capability studies, and verification of compliance with engineering requirements.


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or an equivalent discipline from an accredited university.
  • Between five (5) and ten (10) years of relevant industry experience in tooling or manufacturing engineering, ideally within aerospace or advanced manufacturing environments.
  • Experience working with complex GD&T and applying DFM/DFA/DFX principles.
  • Familiarity with part and assembly quality inspection processes.
  • Experience with additive manufacturing (3D printing) technologies.
  • Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with CAD software such as SolidWorks, Siemens NX, or CATIA.
  • Strong project management capabilities.
  • Excellent analytical abilities and strong teamwork skills.
