Specialized Engineering & Products
Responsibilities
Plan, execute, and deliver mechanical and process engineering work related to fluid flow, heat and mass transfer, for heavy industrial projects in sectors such as metals, energy, and infrastructure; meeting scope, budget, schedule, and quality objectives.
Use first principles-based approaches, calculation tools, and state of the art numerical methods including Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to solve fluid flow and heat transfer problems.
Perform assessments pertaining to transport phenomena fundamental topics, such as multiphase flows, porous media flows, conjugate, convective and radiative heat transfer, phase-change heat transfer, chemical reactions and mass transfer, amongst others.
Prepare clear, high-quality deliverables, including calculations, process-related deliverables (contributions to mass and energy balances, process flow diagrams, etc), technical reports, and scopes of work.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across regions and offices to develop and deliver practical, differentiated solutions for clients.
Communicate analysis and assessment results to other engineering teams and clients. Participate in design decisions and guide the Hatch project team in the decision-making process.

On some occasions, perform site visits and measurement campaigns.
Develop new (in-house) numerical tools and models.
Write and present technical papers at industry conferences.
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Process, Chemical, or a closely related engineering discipline from a recognized university. Core courses of fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and numerical methods have been completed with high standing.
Professional Engineer (PE/P.Eng.) licence or demonstrated progress toward licensure.
3+ years of progressive experience in mechanical, process or chemical engineering, preferably in heavy industry.
Strong interest and capability in first-principles analysis and design, particularly for novel industrial applications where established workflows may not be available. Demonstrated application of theory to solving practical problems either through educational training or work experience.
Some proficiency and experience with commercial CFD software (Ansys Fluent, Siemens STAR-CCM+, or equivalent) is highly desirable, but not mandatory.
Some proficiency with commercial 1-D flow network software (Flownex, Arrow etc.) is also desirable.
Proficiency in scientific programming (Matlab, c++, Fortran, Python, etc.).
Strong understanding of numerical methods such as the finite-volume method, finite-difference method, etc.
Exhibits critical thinking and ability to establish effective solutions for complex problems.
Patient, exhibits moderation in the thought process, avoids jumping to early conclusions.
Awareness of personal limits and ability to reach out for help.
Working knowledge of relevant codes and standards. Experience with NFPA, ventilation (ex: ASHRAE) and (or) nuclear industry-related codes (ex: NQA-1, etc) are highly desirable.
Ability to manage assigned work independently, collaborate effectively, and meet quality, cost, and schedule commitments.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to colleagues and clients.
Interest in client engagement and business development, with the ability to contribute effectively to proposals and project pursuits.
