Full Job Description
Place of Performance: Hybrid - Washington, DC Metro Area (IRS facilities and approved remote work locations)
Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship required
Security Clearance: Must be able to obtain and maintain an IRS Moderate Background Investigation (MBI)/Public Trust.
About the role:
You will build the automated tests that show each migrated API works exactly like the original, and that new APIs are ready for production. The migration target is at least 98% of APIs passing validation on the first try, and your tests are how we get there.
What you will do:
Write automated API tests for REST and SOAP services, covering status codes, headers, payloads and authentication.
Build functional equivalency tests that send identical requests to the webMethods and Kong versions of an API and flag any difference.
Add tests to CI/CD pipelines so every API change and migration wave is checked before release.
Test security behavior, including mTLS, OAuth2 and JWT handling, ACLs and rate limits.
Run smoke tests after production changes and migration cutovers.
Keep test data, test cases and results organized and traceable to each API.
Report defects clearly and confirm fixes.
What you bring:
1 to 2 years in software testing, QA automation, or API development.
Experience testing REST APIs with a tool such as Postman, REST Assured, Karate, pytest or SoapUI.
Scripting or programming in Python, Java or JavaScript.
Basic understanding of HTTP, JSON, XML and API authentication.
Familiarity with Git and running tests in a CI pipeline.
Bachelor's degree in a technical field, or equivalent experience.
Ability to obtain and keep an IRS Moderate Background Investigation (MBI); you must meet IRS suitability and residency requirements.
