Compensation Overview

The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What Is the Opportunity?
Travelers is seeking an Technology Engineer I to join our organization as we grow and transform our Enterprise Technology Solutions organization. Our Technology Engineers serve as the critical bridge between infrastructure foundations and application development, specializing in the design, configuration, and management of enterprise platforms that enable scalable business capabilities. As the essential connective layer between infrastructure and software engineering teams, Technology Engineers collaborate across the technology stack to optimize workflows, resolve critical platform challenges, and ensure seamless integration. This role directly impacts development velocity, system interoperability, and the organization's ability to rapidly deploy and scale business applications across the enterprise technology landscape. From entry-level platform support to strategic technical leadership, Technology Engineers progress through increasing levels of autonomy, technical complexity, and cross-functional influence, ultimately shaping the organizational direction of platform strategy and mentoring the next generation of platform engineering talent.
The VDI Technology Engineer I role is a senior technical role responsible for the delivery, optimization, and strategic evolution of the organization’s enterprise virtual desktop infrastructure. The post-holder is expected to operate as a Citrix Subject Matter Expert (SME), serving as a recognized technical authority on Citrix platforms within the VDI Engineering team. Working predominantly in-office with flexibility for hybrid working, the role ensures secure, resilient, and scalable virtual desktop and application services that support business-critical operations and a diverse end-user population, while providing hands-on collaboration and on-site technical leadership.What Will You Do?
  • Scope:
  • Responsible for performing analysis, design, implementation, and configuration of technology platforms and environments with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Technical Execution:
  • Conduct assessment, development, deployment, and setup of moderately complex technology platforms and environments.
  • Design and implement CI/CD pipelines and DevOps workflows to support application deployment and operations.
  • Participate with team to perform analysis, assessment, and resolution for platform defects and incidents of intermediate complexity and escalate appropriately.
  • Configure, integrate, and maintain the platform/service layer where applications run, ensuring reliability and performance.
  • Document platform configurations, integration points, and operational procedures.
  • Collaborate with Software Engineers and Infrastructure Engineers to align application functionality with platform capabilities and infrastructure performance requirements.
  • Seek opportunities to expand technical knowledge and capabilities in platform engineering, CI/CD methodologies, and DevOps practices.
  • AI Learning: Familiarize with basic AI concepts and introductory tools, participating in foundational workshops and online courses.
  • Tech Utilization: Engage with emerging technologies through guided projects, focusing on hands-on experimentation and understanding practical applications.
  • Strategic Input:
  • Work within guidelines set by team to independently tackle well-scoped platform engineering problems.
  • Define technical requirements for platform engineering assignments, including enterprise SaaS and PaaS solutions for application development and deployment.
  • Continuous Growth: Attend introductory seminars and webinars on AI, fostering an awareness of its impact on technology engineering.

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
  • Technical Expertise & Education:
  • 3 years of technology engineering/platform management experience preferred.
  • Expert-level knowledge of Citrix CVAD, Citrix DaaS, and NetScaler (ADC).
  • Strong experience with Azure Virtual Desktop and hybrid cloud environments.
  • Advanced PowerShell scripting and automation capability.
  • In-depth understanding of Windows Server, Active Directory (Hybrid AD), and Group Policy management.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and major incident management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders effectively in person.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within an office-based team environment and adapt to hybrid working models.
  • Domain Expertise - Demonstrated track record of enterprise platform expertise including the ability to understand SaaS/PaaS concepts necessary to do the job effectively, demonstrate willingness, cooperation, and concern for business issues, and possess in-depth knowledge of immediate technology platforms worked on.
  • Strategic & Business Acumen:
  • Intermediate delivery skills including the ability to deliver technology work at a steady, predictable pace to achieve commitments, decompose platform assignments into small batch deployments, and contribute to enterprise architecture tradeoff and negotiation discussions
  • Proven problem-solving skills including enterprise system debugging abilities, allowing you to determine source of issues in unfamiliar platforms or integration points, ability to recognize and solve repetitive technology problems proactively and permanently, recognize mistakes using them as learning opportunities, and break down large technology problems into smaller, more manageable ones.
  • Leadership & Influence:
  • Strong communication skills that enable clear, concise interactions with team members and stakeholders. Your ability to document technology work in an accessible manner, ask clarifying questions on requirements, and actively listen ensures seamless collaboration.
