Full Job Description
Job Description:

POLITICO is seeking an aggressive, enterprising journalist to cover the intersection of the technology industry with the Trump administration, Congress and Washington writ large.

This reporter will cover the political and policy debates shaping the technology industry from the White House, Capitol Hill, federal agencies and the 2028 campaign trail. You'll report on the administration's technology agenda, congressional efforts to legislate and oversee the industry, and the battles among government officials, technology companies, investors, advocates and other power players over the rules governing one of the world's most consequential industries.

You'll develop a deep source network across Washington and Silicon Valley and use it to break news and deliver authoritative, distinctive reporting on the forces shaping the future of technology. The beat will span the administration's approach to artificial intelligence, antitrust, data privacy, cryptocurrency, social media, telecommunications, broadband and emerging technologies, as well as the lobbying and political campaigns surrounding those issues.

You'll track how the Trump administration is reshaping technology policy, how Congress is responding and where the biggest fights are developing across Washington. You'll also examine the growing political influence of the technology industry - including which companies and executives are gaining access, who is lobbying for what and how corporate interests are navigating the new political landscape.

As technology policy increasingly crosses borders, you'll work with POLITICO's global technology team to connect developments in Washington with policy debates in California, Europe and other technology and political centers around the world.

You'll join a team of enterprising and hard-charging tech reporters driving the conversation in Washington around technology policy, artificial intelligence, antitrust, data privacy, telecom, broadband and corporate influence. Your work will appear across all POLITICO platforms, including Politico.com, newsletters and POLITICO Pro, reaching influential readers in Washington, technology centers and political capitals around the world.

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the technology sector and a track record of chronicling the political and regulatory forces shaping its future. You'll be a fast, determined reporter who can turn sources and original reporting into scoops while also developing ambitious enterprise that explains where Washington and the technology industry are headed next

What You'll Need
  • Significant reporting experience covering technology, policy, politics, government or a related beat.
  • A demonstrated ability to break news and deliver incisive, unique reporting.
  • A strong understanding of the technology industry and the political and regulatory forces shaping it.
  • An established network of sources in Washington, the technology industry, government and advocacy communities, or the ability to build one quickly.
  • Experience writing clearly, accurately and efficiently on deadline.
  • The ability to juggle fast-moving daily news with longer-term enterprise projects.
  • Smart, innovative story ideas and a drive to be first on consequential stories.
  • The ability to explain complex policy and technology debates clearly for an influential audience.
  • A collaborative spirit and willingness to work with reporters and editors across POLITICO's Washington and global technology teams.
  • A rigorous commitment to fair-minded, accurate and nonpartisan journalism.
  • Experience covering the Trump administration, Congress, technology policy, artificial intelligence, antitrust, privacy, cryptocurrency, telecommunications, broadband or technology lobbying is a plus.

COMPENSATION: $140,000 - 160,000 Annual Base. The final salary offered will be based on factors including relevant experience, skills, and qualifications.
