Full Job Description
As a Tax Senior on BPM's Flowthrough team specializing in the Wine Industry, you will play a key role in helping wineries, vineyard owners, wine producers, and family-owned businesses navigate complex tax and business challenges. In this role, you'll work directly with clients and firm leadership on a variety of partnership, S corporation, and individual tax matters unique to the wine industry. Your contributions will help clients optimize tax strategies, preserve wealth across generations, and make informed business decisions in an evolving economic and regulatory environment.

Note: This position is onsite at our Santa Rosa office and expected to follow a hybrid work schedule.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and review federal, state, and local tax returns for flowthrough entities (partnerships, S corporations) within the winery, vineyard, and agribusiness sectors
  • Assist with tax planning and consulting engagements, including multi-state compliance and entity structuring considerations
  • Support inventory costing and accounting analyses, including UNICAP (§263A), production accounting, and valuation matters
  • Prepare workpapers and documentation related to complex tax positions
  • Conduct tax research and apply findings to client-specific recommendations
  • Assist in addressing tax implications related to wine production cycles, agricultural operations, and distribution models
  • Support compliance and advisory work related to excise tax and beverage alcohol regulations (e.g., TTB considerations)
  • Work with clients with multi-entity structures, including family-owned operations and private equity-backed winery businesses
  • Communicate directly with clients, including controllers, CFOs, and owners, to gather information and provide updates
  • Manage multiple engagements simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining quality standards
  • Identify opportunities to provide additional value to clients through tax planning and process improvements


Requirements:

  • CPA preferred or in progress
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 3-5+ years of public accounting experience, with a focus on flowthrough taxation (partnerships and S corporations)
  • Experience working with winery, vineyard, agribusiness, or consumer products clients
