Full Job Description

The Senior Vice President, Strategy & Planning is a senior executive responsible for elevating the quality, consistency, and impact of Strategic Planning across Tinuiti's most important client relationships. This leader serves as a trusted counselor to senior clients and internal leaders, bringing deep Strategy + Planning expertise to complex business challenges while strengthening the connection between strategic thinking, media planning, and execution.

The SVP plays a critical role in expanding senior Strategic Planning leadership capacity across the agency. They work across priority accounts to diagnose opportunities and challenges, align senior stakeholders, mobilize the right capabilities and resources, and help client teams raise the quality of their strategic work. The role is designed to strengthen existing client leadership rather than replace it, providing senior intervention and counsel where it can have the greatest impact while building the capabilities of the leaders and teams responsible for sustaining that work.

In addition to senior client leadership, this role partners closely with the VPs of Strategy and Planning to continuously elevate Tinuiti's Strategy + Planning craft, methodologies, standards, and quality. The SVP provides senior craft mentorship to client-specific Strategic Planning leads, typically at the Director and Senior Director levels, strengthening their strategic judgment, client influence, planning leadership, and ability to translate strategy through execution.

The SVP also contributes selectively to major new-business opportunities, helping develop strategic narratives and bringing senior Strategy + Planning thinking to high-stakes pitches. Working in partnership with Strategic Intelligence and other capabilities across Tinuiti, the SVP helps test and apply emerging methodologies in real client environments and translate proven innovation into repeatable planning practice.

Based in New York City, this executive also plays an important role in strengthening Tinuiti's senior Strategic Planning presence in the market through client relationships, senior talent networks, industry connectivity, thought leadership, and participation in the broader advertising and media community.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Senior Client Counsel: Serve as a trusted strategic advisor to senior marketing and media executives across priority clients, helping them navigate complex business and marketing challenges through strong strategic thinking and integrated media planning.

  • Strategic Client Intervention: Partner with account and practice leadership to diagnose complex or underperforming client situations. Identify whether strategic performance is being limited by strategy, planning, process, integration, resources, client expectations, or talent application, and help align teams around a clear path forward.

  • Strategy + Planning Craft Leadership: Partner closely with the VPs of Strategy and Planning to continuously elevate Tinuiti's Strategy + Planning methodologies, standards, quality expectations, and overall craft across the practice.

  • Senior Craft Mentorship: Provide senior craft mentorship and coaching to client-specific Strategic Planning leads, typically at the Director and Senior Director levels. Strengthen their strategic judgment, client influence, executive presence, planning leadership, and ability to translate strategic thinking into strong media decisions.

  • Strategy-to-Execution Integration: Strengthen the connection between strategic direction, media planning decisions, and activation. Partner with Strategy, Planning, Investment, and activation leaders to identify and address gaps that prevent strategic intent from carrying consistently through execution.

  • Cross-Capability Leadership: Work across Strategic Intelligence, Investment, Measurement, Commerce, Creative, Analytics, Data Science, and other relevant capabilities to bring the right expertise together around complex client problems and opportunities.

  • Capability Application and Evolution: Bring client and practitioner needs into the evolution of Tinuiti's Strategy + Planning capabilities. Partner with Strategic Intelligence and other capability leaders to test emerging methodologies and tools in client environments, identify opportunities for improvement, and help translate proven innovations into repeatable planning practice.

  • Selective New Business Leadership: Participate in major new-business opportunities where senior Strategy + Planning leadership can add disproportionate value. Contribute to strategic narrative development, challenge teams to elevate the work, and help test emerging planning approaches in high-stakes pitch environments.

  • NYC Market Leadership: Strengthen Tinuiti's senior Strategic Planning presence in New York through senior client and prospect relationships, talent networks, industry relationships, thought leadership, and participation in the broader advertising, media, and marketing community.

  • Thought Leadership: Contribute to Tinuiti's external and internal thought leadership by identifying emerging shifts in consumer behavior, media, culture, technology, and marketing and translating them into useful perspectives for clients and practitioners.

Qualifications

  • 18+ years of relevant experience in strategic planning, media, marketing, or communications, with progressive levels of responsibility and demonstrated business acumen.

  • Deep expertise in Strategic Planning combined with meaningful media planning fluency, with demonstrated ability to carry strategic thinking through communications planning, media decision-making, and execution.

  • Strong understanding of both online and offline media, consumer behavior, audience strategy, and the evolving media and technology landscape.

  • Significant experience advising senior marketing and media executives and influencing high-level client decisions.

  • Proven ability to diagnose complex client situations, identify underlying strategic and organizational issues, and align diverse stakeholder groups around practical solutions.

  • Demonstrated ability to strengthen strategic quality across multiple clients, teams, or business situations rather than relying solely on direct ownership of the work.

  • Experience coaching senior strategists and planners and elevating the strategic judgment, client leadership, and professional craft of other practitioners.

  • Strong cross-functional leadership skills with experience working across media planning, investment, analytics, measurement, creative, commerce, data, and related disciplines.

  • Strong strategic judgment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate ambiguity and move effectively in dynamic environments where processes and operating models continue to evolve.

  • Proven ability to influence teams and senior leaders without relying solely on formal authority.

  • Excellent written, verbal, facilitation, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex strategic ideas clearly and persuasively to executive audiences.

  • Meaningful new-business experience, including the ability to contribute to strategic narrative development and perform effectively in high-stakes pitch environments.

  • Ability to build strong senior relationships and represent Tinuiti credibly within the New York advertising, media, and marketing community.

  • Highly collaborative leadership style with the ability to make other leaders and teams more effective.

  • Demonstrated alignment with a culture that values ambition without ego, unreasonable collaboration, and constant curiosity.

The annual base salary range for this role’s listed level is currently $250,000-$300,000 plus performance bonus.  Grade level and salary ranges are determined through interviews and a review of education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant, equity with other team members, and alignment with market data.
