Job Description

The SVP, Commercial Insurance Marine Line of Business Manager provides executive leadership for Chubb's marine portfolio, with accountability for profitability, growth, product strategy, and operational execution. This role drives cross-functional alignment across underwriting, product, claims, actuarial, technology, legal, and field teams to strengthen portfolio performance, advance business objectives, and support long-term market competitiveness.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Commercial Insurance Marine P&L, product strategy, and portfolio performance to deliver profitable growth and sustained business results.
  • Set direction for rating, state filings, forms, and pricing models to support competitive market positioning and sound underwriting execution.
  • Guide the rollout of the new Marine Product and Duck Creek policy administration system, while partnering with other divisions that may benefit from shared third-party data or technical components of the marine platform.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage shared data, tools, and technical capabilities across divisions to enhance efficiency, consistency, and enterprise value.
  • Establish underwriting rules and manage straight-through processing for new and renewal business to support disciplined risk selection and operational efficiency.
  • Drive profit, growth, and portfolio optimization for the Commercial Insurance Marine book through active management of performance, mix, and strategy.
  • Direct capacity management and reinsurance strategy, including facultative and treaty reinsurance, to support portfolio stability and risk appetite.
  • Serve as lead underwriter for complex Commercial Marine referrals and enterprise-level decisions, including field referrals for high-risk classes of business and participate in the Enterprise Call process.
  • Translate market, claims, and trend insights into portfolio strategy and action to improve decision-making and support long-term performance.
  • Work with Industry Practices to develop and implement strategies for managing the Marine portfolio.
  • Represent Chubb with industry groups, committees, and conferences to advance the company's presence and perspective in the marketplace.
  • Identify and leverage external data sources and analytical tools to enhance pricing sophistication and profitability analysis.
  • Deliver technical training through on-site and virtual modules to the field and manage referrals on complex business.
  • Partner across Industry Practice managers, IT, Claims, General Counsel, Actuarial, Chubb Oversees General, and field underwriting to execute business plans.
  • Collaborate with technology management on project prioritization and planning to anticipate future resource needs.

  • Familiarity with Duck Creek or similar platforms.
  • Strong understanding of commercial marine coverage, pricing, rating, filings, forms, and underwriting strategy, with the ability to apply strategic thinking and sound business acumen.
  • Demonstrated success leading profitable growth and managing a complex book of business, with accountability for results.
  • Proven experience and success delivering digital underwriting platforms and underwriting workflows leveraging new technologies including AI.
  • Track record of partnering effectively across underwriting, claims, actuarial, technology, legal, and operations teams, with strong enterprise leadership and cross-functional influence.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to translate data and market insights into action and exercise sound judgment.
  • Excellent communication, influence, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build strong relationships and lead through change in a dynamic environment.
  • Customer- and market-oriented leader with a track record of collaboration, execution discipline, and talent development.

The pay range for the role is $200,000 to $250,000. The specific offer will depend on an applicant's skills and other factors.
