Supply Chain Engineer

REPORTS TO: Director of Central Distribution

STATUS: EXEMPT

SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm

POSITION SUMMARY

The Supply Chain Engineer serves as the engineering resource for Boot Barn's distribution network and provides technical leadership for initiatives that support the continued growth of the company's supply chain operations. This position partners with distribution center leadership, cross-functional teams, and external vendors to evaluate operational needs, develop practical solutions, and ensure new processes, systems, and technologies are successfully integrated into the business. The Supply Chain Engineer applies engineering principles and data-driven analysis to support operational decision-making while helping prepare the distribution network for future growth and automation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain engineered labor standards across all distribution centers through work measurement, time studies, and operational observations.
• Review labor standards on a regular basis to ensure they accurately reflect current operating methods, equipment, automation, and business requirements.
• Conduct process evaluations to identify opportunities that improve operational performance, reduce waste, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
• Lead engineering activities for warehouse automation and capital projects from planning through post-implementation support.
• Serve as the primary Boot Barn project representative by coordinating implementation activities between internal stakeholders, distribution center leadership, vendors, contractors, and system providers.
• Develop project schedules, monitor milestones, identify risks, and communicate project status to leadership throughout the implementation lifecycle.
• Coordinate facility readiness activities, operational testing, training, and go-live support to ensure successful project execution with minimal impact to operations.
• Analyze warehouse operations, labor performance, storage utilization, throughput, capacity, and workflow using operational data and engineering principles.
• Develop financial analyses and business cases to evaluate new equipment, automation technologies, facility improvements, and other capital investment opportunities.
• Support network planning initiatives by evaluating facility layouts, storage strategies, inventory flow, and operational capacity to meet future business growth.
• Create, maintain, and analyze operational reports, dashboards, and key performance indicators using Microsoft Excel, Power BI, SQL, and other reporting tools.
• Develop and maintain engineering documentation including process maps, standard operating procedures, work instructions, labor models, and project documentation.
• Partner with Operations, Information Technology, Finance, Facilities, Merchandising, and other business partners to support cross-functional initiatives.
• Research industry trends, warehouse technologies, and automation solutions to identify opportunities that enhance Boot Barn's supply chain capabilities.
• Support new distribution center startups, facility expansions, equipment installations, and operational changes as required.
• Travel to distribution centers to conduct observations, support projects, perform operational assessments, and collaborate with local leadership.
• Ensure all engineering activities support company safety standards, operational excellence, and compliance with company policies. Demonstrates high degree of professionalism in communication, attitude and teamwork with customers, peers and management.
• Performs any other duties that may be assigned by management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Engineering, Operations Engineering, or a related field.
• 3 - 7+ years of engineering, supply chain, warehouse operations, or continuous improvement experience.
• Experience developing and maintaining engineered labor standards and conducting time studies.
• Experience managing cross-functional projects from planning through implementation.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate operational data into actionable recommendations.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
• Experience with warehouse management systems (WMS), warehouse execution systems (WES), warehouse control systems (WCS) or ERP systems preferred.
• Experience in supporting warehouse automation or material handling equipment implementations preferred.
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Continuous Improvement, 5S, and process optimization methodologies preferred.
• Ability to travel to Boot Barn distribution centers and project sites as business needs require.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and presentation skills.
