DutiesHelp
- Directs and oversees planning and execution of all St. Louis District hydrologic, hydraulic, potamology, water control, and surface water studies and projects.
- Supervises professional and specialized technical employees through subordinate supervisors.
- Work directed primarily involves hydrologic and hydraulic studies, and water control management endeavors including sediment transport studies, project regulation, surface water data collection, etc.
- Coordinates with budgeting and programming personnel in establishing monetary program requirements.
- Performs personnel management functions, including employee performance, recruitment and placement, approving leave, receiving complaints and grievances, disciplinary actions, and training.
- During flood emergencies, supervises the collection of discharge data and high water elevations, predictions of probable flood heights at certain index gages; and compilation of data for flood fight and preparation of post flood reports.
- Maintains liaison with other District, federal, state and local agencies in the interchange of hydraulic or hydrologic data in connection with the cooperative stream gaging program and in the establishment of the rainfall reporting.
- Oversees administration of contracts, including monitoring contract progress and final evaluation of the contractors' performance.
- Oversees the compilation, computation and analysis of historical hydraulic data from channel surveys, hydrographic surveys, study ranges and gages, and dike field surveys and reviews detailed analyses of findings and recommendations.

Basic Requirement for Civil EngineerIn addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Minimum Qualifications for NH-04:Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing engineering studies, quality monitoring, and/or hydrologic or hydraulic management; planning, budgeting, scheduling, staffing, and/or control of engineering functions for civil works projects; and supervision, leadership, or extensive experience working with and/or directing teams. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (NH-03/GS-13).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job at the NH-04, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience aloneno substitution of education for experience is permitted.

- This is a pay banded position. The NH-04 band encompasses grades GS-14 and GS-15 under the General Schedule (GS) system.
