Full Job Description
About the Role
The Superintendent, Project Controls is responsible for establishing, leading, and overseeing the total project controls framework-incorporating cost engineering, planning and scheduling, estimating, progress measurement, change management, and risk analysis-for the North Bullfrog Project. This role serves as the central control authority ensuring capital discipline, schedule predictability, accurate forecasting, and commercial assurance across all engineering, procurement, and construction (EPCM/EPC) work packages in support of safe, on-time, and within-budget project delivery.
As a key operational leadership team member reporting to the Manager, Projects, the Superintendent partners closely with cross-functional Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Operations, and Finance teams to align multidisciplinary execution toward shared project milestone targets and corporate PMO standards.
Key Responsibilities
Integrated Baseline & Schedule Management
• Direct the development, baseline approval, and maintenance of the integrated master schedule (Primavera P6), ensuring accurate critical path logic, resource loading, and milestone integrity across all project phases.
Cost Engineering & Forecasting
• Establish and maintain the Cost Breakdown Structure (CBS) aligned with the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS).
• Oversee commitments, expenditures, monthly cost forecasting, and Estimate at Completion (EAC) updates against approved Authorizations for Expenditure (AFE).
Earned Value & Performance Analytics
• Implement Earned Value Management (EVM) metrics, productivity tracking, and schedule variance analyses.
• Deliver executive dashboards, Key Performance Indicator (KPI) scorecards, and comprehensive monthly progress reports to project leadership and steering committees.
Management of Change (MOC) & Trend Governance
• Administer the project scope change and trend management process, rigorously tracking potential deviations, scope growth, design changes, claims, and contingency drawdowns.
Contractor & Commercial Oversight
• Supervise EPCM/EPC contractors and third-party vendors with respect to project controls deliverables.
• Validate billing and pay applications, contractor progress curves, and contractual milestone adherence.
Capital Estimating & Cash Flow Planning
• Oversee cost estimating updates (CAPEX/OPEX), benchmark historical performance, and maintain cash flow projections through study stages into execution and commissioning.
Quantitative Risk Analysis
• Lead qualitative and quantitative cost and schedule risk analyses (QCRA / QSRA / Monte Carlo simulations) to determine appropriate contingency levels and establish proactive mitigation roadmaps.
Controls Team Leadership & Governance
• Supervise, mentor, and build technical capability within the project controls team (cost controllers, schedulers, document controllers).
• Standardize project control procedures in strict alignment with AngloGold Ashanti PMO standards.
Requirements
• Bachelor of Science in Construction Management, Civil/Mining/Mechanical Engineering, Project Management, Finance, or a closely related discipline required.
• Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Cost Professional (CCP), Planning & Scheduling Professional (PSP), or related AACE International / PMI certifications preferred.
• Minimum 8 to 12+ years of progressive project controls and cost engineering experience on major capital projects ($100M+).
• Demonstrated experience in open-pit mining, heap leach processing, or heavy industrial infrastructure development.
• Proven track record leading multidisciplinary project controls teams and managing EPCM/EPC contractor controls deliverables.
• Comprehensive understanding of Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), Cost Breakdown Structures (CBS), Earned Value Management (EVM), and PMO governance methodologies.
• Practical familiarity with heavy civil/mining construction execution, contract structures (Lump Sum, EPC, EPCM, Unit Price), and procurement/subcontractor lifecycle management.
• Solid background in quantitative schedule risk analysis (QSRA) and contingency management principles.
• Advanced proficiency in Primavera P6, enterprise cost management systems (e.g., Prism, EcoSys, SAP), Power BI dashboard development, and advanced Microsoft Excel modeling.
• Strategic problem-solving and analytical capabilities to evaluate critical path deviations, identify early cost/schedule drift, and recommend actionable recovery plans.
• Exceptional interpersonal, written, and executive presentation skills to deliver complex project performance updates to project leadership, steering committees, and corporate executives.
• Strong leadership and stakeholder alignment skills to unite cross-functional engineering, procurement, construction, and commercial teams.
• Valid driver's license required with the ability to operate company vehicles safely.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
