Responsibilities & QualificationsThe Opportunity
As a Structural Engineer within TYLin's Rail + Transit practice, you will play a critical role in the planning, analysis, design, and delivery of structural solutions for major transportation projects across Canada.
You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams of engineers, architects, planners, and project managers to develop innovative and resilient infrastructure that supports safe, efficient, and sustainable transit systems.
This role offers exposure to a wide range of projects, including transit stations, maintenance and storage facilities, passenger platforms, bridges, tunnels, ancillary structures, and other transportation-related infrastructure.
What You'll Do
- Lead and support structural engineering design for rail and transit infrastructure projects throughout Canada.
- Perform structural analysis, design calculations, and engineering assessments for a variety of transportation structures.
- Develop design drawings, technical specifications, engineering reports, and construction documentation.
- Design and review structural systems utilizing steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, timber, and other construction materials.
- Coordinate closely with civil, track, systems, architecture, geotechnical, and construction teams.
- Participate in all project phases, from planning and preliminary engineering through detailed design and construction support.
- Conduct structural inspections, condition assessments, and rehabilitation studies as required.
- Ensure designs meet applicable Canadian codes, standards, client requirements, and industry best practices.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
- Support client engagement, proposal development, and business growth initiatives within the Rail + Transit practice.
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Structural Engineering, or a degree in Structural Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Canada is required.
- 5+ years of progressive structural engineering experience.
- Experience designing transportation, transit, rail, bridge, industrial, or large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian design codes and standards, including CSA and applicable transportation agency requirements.
- Experience with structural analysis and design software such as SAP2000, ETABS, STAAD.Pro, MIDAS, RAM, or similar platforms.
- Experience developing construction documents and coordinating multidisciplinary engineering designs.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments while maintaining a high standard of technical excellence.

Additional InformationTYLin is committed to pay equity. As part of that commitment, we have provided the base compensation range of $90,000 - $115,000 annually for this position and local market. We recognize that each candidate brings a unique set of skills, experience, education and competencies to the table that will be reflected in our offer.
