Job Description:Confluent is hiring! We are seeking a
Staff Thermomechanical Process Development Engineer to join our dynamic team of industry leading experts to develop, optimize, and implement robust
Thermomechanical processes for Nitinol medical devices.
Responsibilities:
- Work as part of Confluent's multifunctional Process Development Team responsible for feasibility through process development, optimization, validation, and manufacturing transfer of medical device production processes.
- Design high precision fixtures and tooling for forming, heat treatment, crimping, honing, and related thermomechanical processes.
- Develop and optimize heat treatment and forming processes for Nitinol components.
- Use statistical analysis and Design of Experiments (DOE) to characterize processes, identify key parameters, optimize performance, and support data driven decisions.
- Perform and support root cause investigations for process, tooling, and product issues and drive appropriate corrective actions.
- Analyze process and product data to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.
- Transfer developed processes to manufacturing sites, including documentation, training, validation support, and troubleshooting during implementation.
- Collaborate with operators, technicians, engineers, quality, and manufacturing teams to ensure processes meet product and customer requirements.
- Create and maintain work instructions, visual standards, engineering studies, drawings, and other manufacturing documentation.
- Support process validation and continuous improvement using Lean Six Sigma and structured problem solving principles.
- Manage multiple technical priorities and independently drive assigned work to completion.
Essential Qualities:
- Experience designing high precision mechanical components.
- Ability to create, interpret, and update engineering drawings for complex mechanical devices and assemblies.
- Working knowledge of GD&T and tolerance stack analysis.
- Ability to solve complex technical challenges by applying materials science and fundamental metallurgical principles.
- Understanding of materials science and fundamental metallurgical principles. Experience with NiTi a plus. Ability to communicate clearly and efficiently in a highly technical environment.
- Self motivated and able to work independently with limited direction.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
- Comfortable taking on new or unfamiliar technical challenges.
- Capable of performing under the pressure of multiple competing deadlines while maintaining cooperative and constructive working relationships.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors in Engineering with a minimum of 5 years of related engineering experience. Degree in Mechanical or Materials Engineering discipline preferred.
- Solidworks modeling and drawing.
- Experience with Minitab or JMP desirable.
- Familiarity with metalworking/machining processes.
