Overview

At Okta, we are building a world where anyone can safely use any technology, and within Okta Platform R&D, we're specifically focused on protecting the future of work. We are a globally-minded company dedicated to delighting our customers across the world. We are looking for an experienced full stack Staff Software Engineer (with a focus on UI) who is passionate about building large-scale, mission-critical infrastructure in a fast-paced agile environment. The ideal candidate will be excited about joining a platform team that is driving several cross functional initiatives within the company.

You will be responsible for defining the forward-looking vision for Okta's UI platform infrastructure. You will work with a globally distributed engineering team to build the frameworks and systems that empower all feature teams to effectively deliver world-ready software. You will play a crucial role in developing and maintaining shared libraries and tools used across the entire organization, ensuring accessibility, scalability, and adherence to Okta's coding standards. If you are passionate about technical leadership and have a deep expertise in transforming complex products for a global audience, then we want to talk to you.

In this role, you'll get to...
  • Define, own, and drive the architectural vision and technical roadmap for a major UI platform subsystem (e.g., UI modernization journeys, internationalization infrastructure, versioning strategies), securing buy-in across dependent feature teams.
  • Serve as the definitive design reviewer for high-impact proposals and cross-team interface specifications, ensuring long-term technical integrity and maintainability.
  • Drive cross-functional alignment and resolve technical ambiguity for initiatives spanning multiple product teams, translating high-level product strategy into actionable technical architecture.
  • Shape a culture of continuous learning by proactively sharing knowledge, mentoring Senior Engineers, and establishing best practices.
  • Empower developers by building reusable components and robust design patterns that help other teams deliver world-ready UIs and APIs efficiently.
  • Be a hands-on contributor, driving the implementation and ensuring the technical quality of the platform's most complex and foundational components.

Minimum Requirements
  • 5+ years of software development experience
  • Expertise in software architecture and implementation, with a strong development background in a language like Java, Python, or C++, and significant experience with frameworks such as Spring, React.js, or Node.js.
  • A strong grasp of software engineering designs, principles, and practices, with a focus on building scalable and maintainable systems.
  • You have strong communication skills and can distill complex concepts into simple, easy to understand narratives

Nice to have
  • Experience defining and implementing internationalization and localization strategies for large-scale enterprise applications.
  • Familiarity with globalization and accessibility tooling processes.
  • Familiarity with UI build tooling, CLIs and design systems
  • Experience being part of a platform team treating developers as customers

Additional requirements:
  • U.S. soil status - the employee must be on U.S. soil, which means the 50 states, the District of Columbia, or outlying areas of the United States, as defined in Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) 2.101, and be a U.S. person.
  • U.S. person status - the employee must be either a U.S. citizen as defined in 42 U.S. Code a7 9102; a natural person who is a lawful permanent resident as defined in 8 U.S.C. 1101(a)(20) or who is a protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3); or a U.S. national (i.e. includes citizens and non-citizens born in outlying possessions such as American Samoa and Swains Island), green card holders, refugees, and asylees. Working on a U.S. visa does NOT qualify as a U.S. person.
