Staff Software Engineer (Front-end)Calgary, ABAbout the RoleLodgeLink is inviting Staff Software Engineers in Scottsdale or Calgary, AB with deep expertise in frontend architecture to join our team and shape the future of workforce travel. We are looking for technical leaders who elevate the craft of engineering across the full stack: from responsive, scalable frontend systems to the backend services and platform foundations that power them.
As a Staff Software Engineer, you operate at the intersection of architecture, platform engineering, and team amplification. You set the technical direction for how our products are built, scaled, and evolved. You design systems that are technically sound, resilient, and easy for teams to extend and operate. You make every engineer around you measurably better.
As a Staff Software Engineer with a focus on frontend architecture, you should be deeply comfortable leading frontend and backend design decisions, defining cross-service contracts, and driving platform engineering initiatives that raise the capabilities of every engineer on the team. Our current cloud stack includes ReactJS, Golang, gRPC, Tailwinds, Shadcn, Docker, Kafka, and PostgreSQL, all fully running on the cloud, plus a few more things. This role is in Scottsdale, AZ, or Calgary, AB and is in-office with 20% flexibility to work from home.
The ideal candidate we're looking for is a highly influential software engineering leader who is passionate about building exceptional products, scaling modern cloud platforms, and elevating the engineers around them through mentorship and technical leadership. This is an opportunity to shape the future of LodgeLink's technology stack, drive AI-enabled engineering practices, and make a lasting impact on a growing team that values innovation, autonomy, and continuous learning.
This role is hybrid - in-office with 20% flexibility to work from home.
Responsibilities:- Your job #1 is to make the software engineering team better through doing, mentoring, and influence. You are a force multiplier, not just a high-output individual contributor. You are a role model.
- Lead architecture decisions across the full stack: from component design and state management to microservice contracts, API design, and cross-system integration patterns.
- Define and evolve our frontend architecture: component systems, rendering strategies, performance at scale, design system governance, and micro-frontend approaches where they apply.
- Drive platform engineering initiatives: shared tooling, DX improvements, CI/CD pipeline design, observability layers, and internal developer platforms that let other engineers ship faster and with greater confidence.
- Actively integrate AI-augmented practices into the SDLC: prompt engineering workflows, AI-assisted code review, generative scaffolding, LLM-powered developer tooling, and AI-native testing patterns. Help the team develop fluency in building with and alongside AI tools.
- Establish and enforce engineering standards: code quality, testing strategy, API design principles, observability, and security patterns. Build the tools and templates so that all other developers will say this is easy. In the next few years, you will scale our products to be top of class, responsive and attractive to delight users.
Qualifications:- 7+ years of recent experience with modern front-end technologies built with ReactJS while knowing enough about other technologies such as Golang, gRPC, microservices, and micro-frontends. It is okay not to know all these technologies, we know you can learn fast because you know the principles and have strong software engineering foundations.
- 15+ years of progressive career in software development lifecycle experience, with a demonstrated evolution from individual execution to architecture ownership and technical leadership, and still having a curiosity and malleability to learn new ways.
- 15+ years of mastery of SDLC, SOLID Principles, Data/Behavior/Test Driven Development, DDD, and a love of Clean Code and clean architecture. You have the pattern library in your head and know when not to use it.
- 15+ years of proven application of cloud development patterns and best practices with multiple years in different architectures and industries.
- Strong backend competency: Golang, gRPC, microservices, RESTful APIs, and event-driven architectures. You can design and evaluate backend services critically and go deep on implementation when the situation calls for it.
- 5+ years focused on an API-first approach with expertise in loosely coupled systems and domain driven design.
- An advocate for and experience in effectively managing and planning technical debt so that ours does not grow.
- An attitude and pride in quality code with multiple approaches towards testing.
- Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering.
