Full Job Description
The Role

We're looking for a Staff Product Designer to join our Foundations team, which is responsible for the systems, patterns, and surfaces that help us build consistent, high-quality experiences. You'll play a leadership role in shaping and evolving Jobber's design system across our entire product suite on multiple platforms. In an evolving age of AI design and development, you will help establish new ways to think about how people and tools incorporate design system ideas into their work. You'll lead major projects and initiatives that raise design standards across the company, improving consistency and team velocity.

Our team collaborates closely with designers, product managers, and engineers across the company. You'll work at the intersection of design, engineering, and systems thinking to help other teams build better experiences, faster, and to turn people's good ideas into great experiences that are easier to build and ship, and that endure over time.

In this role, you will:
  • Lead design system initiatives to create systems of components and product-level interaction patterns that scale across platforms
  • Be the steward of Jobber's brand and experience principles, helping to foster thoughtful, high-quality visual and interaction design across the company
  • Identify gaps in the system and proactively drive solutions that improve consistency and usability at scale, and raise the bar for UX quality
  • Define and evolve governance models, contribution processes, and best practices
  • Partner closely with Engineering leaders to raise implementation quality across the company, and to improve how we incorporate system best practices into AI-backed design and development tools and workflows
  • Collaborate regularly with other designers and embed in product teams to support system adoption, share best practices, and to inform system iteration
  • Steer UX quality initiatives and roadmap planning to improve visual design, interaction design, accessibility, usability, and performance
  • Mentor others to build a strong culture of collaboration, feedback, and continuous improvement
To be successful, you should have:
  • A portfolio demonstrating your design craft, systems thinking, and measurable impact on product quality or team efficiency
  • 5-10 years experience designing and evolving design systems, including work on major initiatives like system redesigns or creating new products
  • A track record of leading complex projects or initiatives that improved design consistency and quality across an organization
  • Deep expertise in interaction design, UI patterns, and visual design
  • Deep understanding of accessibility standards across platforms
  • Expertise collaborating closely with engineers and understanding how design translates to code
  • Strong technical literacy with front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, and frameworks like React)
  • Strong expertise with Figma (components, tokens, auto-layout, prototyping)
  • Strong opinions about the evolving AI design landscape, including how people design, prototype, share patterns, and document work
  • A track record of making effective decisions that scale across organizations, balancing flexibility with standardization
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally across an organization, build alignment with senior leaders, and inform strategy
Bonus Points
  • Experience scaling a design system in a fast-growing, multi-product environment
  • Experience designing complex software-as-a-service (SaaS) tools for business (B2B), especially for small-business customers (SMB)
  • Coding skills including experience with Typescript - ability to implement tokens and improve component quality, hands-on
  • Passion for blending roles, extending design into code and vice-versa

Our Hiring Process:

You can expect the interview process to include the following steps:
  • Talent Team Interview (45 min): An introduction to Jobber, your background, and what you're looking for.
  • Portfolio Review (60 min): A deep dive into selected projects to understand your design process, decision-making, and impact.
  • Functional Whiteboard Exercise (75 min): A collaborative problem-solving session to see how you approach ambiguity and work through complex UX challenges.
  • Cross-Functional Interview (30 min): A conversation about your approach to cross-functional collaboration, including communication, feedback, and decision-making with product and engineering partners.

Location:

We believe great collaboration is intentional, and sometimes that means coming together in person to build, brainstorm, and connect. To support this, the role is open to candidates based in one of our hub cities: Edmonton, Toronto, Vancouver, or Kitchener-Waterloo.

Compensation:

At Jobber, we believe that compensation should be transparent, fair, and supportive of your experience and growth. Our salary ranges are designed to reflect the progression from learning the role to truly excelling. This role has an annual salary of:

Canada: minimum annual salary of $169,200 CAD, a midpoint of $199,100, and a maximum salary of $228,900 CAD.

We design our compensation to reflect each new hire's skills, experience, and the complexity of the role, ensuring a fair and competitive salary. Our range is intentionally broad to support growth and long-term impact, with fully established hires typically starting around the midpoint. The higher end of the range is reserved for those who have demonstrated deep expertise and lasting contributions, while offers below the midpoint reflect strong potential with room to develop. This approach ensures that compensation aligns with both an individual's current capabilities and their opportunity for future growth.

Base salary is just one part of a total compensation package that will include equity rewards, annual stipends for health and wellness, retirement savings matching, and an extended health package with fully paid premiums for body and mind. Your professional growth matters to us too! You'll have access to a dedicated talent development program that includes career coaching and opportunities for career development.

We believe in transparency and open conversations about compensation. If you have any questions about our approach, we're happy to discuss them throughout the hiring process!

What you can expect from Jobber:
  • A total compensation package that includes an extended health benefits package with fully paid premiums for both body and mind, matching in RRSP, TFSA or FHSA, and stock options.
  • A dedicated Talent Development team and access to coaching, learning, and leadership programs to help you grow your career, reach your goals, and unlock your full potential.
  • A unique opportunity to build, grow, and leave your impact on a $400-billion industry that has no dominant player...yet.
  • To work with a group of people who are humble, supportive, and give a sh*t about our customers.
