Full Job Description
The Dolby name is synonymous worldwide with amazing entertainment experiences, from Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos in cinemas and living rooms to Dolby Atmos Music on the latest smart speakers and smartphones. To get there, we need an experienced Staff Electrical Engineer to join the Consumer Entertainment engineering team and help us craft the hardware that will enable the next generation of entertainment technologies.

You'll be joining a team that develops innovative hardware and software solutions to enable incredible Dolby audio experiences across a wide range of consumer electronics devices. You will be responsible for supporting hardware innovation with embedded software. In collaboration with acoustic, mechanical, electrical and software engineers, you will develop and demonstrate exciting new hardware technologies and work with our consumer electronics partners to integrate them into new product offerings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with external customers, Dolby partners, and other Dolby teams to bring new audio experiences to new devices.
  • Develop hardware platforms to enable and advance Dolby technologies.
  • Design analog and digital electronics hardware with an emphasis on audio band applications.
  • Simulate and analyze new circuit topologies for use within audio electronics, loudspeakers, and power conversion devices.
  • Understand system architecture requirements and tradeoffs and design appropriate solutions.
  • Evaluate potential components (ICs) and modules for integration into new designs.
  • Develop prototype designs that showcase new Dolby technologies.
  • Work with cross functional teams including acoustic and mechanical engineers to develop holistic solutions.
  • Collaborate with software engineers to enable DSP algorithms on hardware designs.
  • Work with contract manufacturers to build prototypes for evaluation and customer demos.
  • Support customers with product architecture, component selection, and schematic review requests.
  • Perform competitive product analysis and benchmarking.


Minimum requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Master is preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of proven industry experience.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and developing mixed-signal systems for the consumer market.
  • Experience developing board level systems utilizing audio components including class D amplifiers, ADCs/DACs/CODECs, DSPs, and MEMs.
  • Experience with digital audio (I2S/TDM, PDM, SPDIF, Dante) and control (I2C, SPI, UART) buses.
  • Experience designing switch-mode and linear power systems.
  • Proficient with PCB design platform (e.g. Xpedition) and PLM system (e.g. Agile)
  • Proficient with EE lab tools including oscilloscopes, power supplies, and multimeters.
  • Ability to solder and manage board modifications without technician help.
  • Experience with system architecture, component selection, schematic capture, and PCB layout.
  • Excellent hands-on electronics evaluation and troubleshooting skills.
  • Great interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to achieve results, meet deadlines, and adjust to quickly changing priorities in a fast-paced engineering environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication in English, including the ability to produce clear and concise technical software documentation.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Critical thinker and problem-solver.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time (domestic and international).

The San Francisco/Bay Area base salary range for this full-time position is $152,900 - $210,200which can vary if outside this location,plus bonus, benefits, and some roles may also include equity. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, competencies, experience, market demands, internal parity, and relevant education or training.
