Job Summary:

Supermicro seeks an experienced Staff Data Center Electrical Engineer to lead the design and development of high-density data centers for AI, cloud, and hyperscale use. This position will shape Supermicro's electrical standards, OPR, and BOD documentation for new and expanding projects in the U.S. and globally.

The engineer will apply expertise across voltage systems, coordinate with mechanical, civil, and controls teams, and work directly with consultants, utilities, and construction partners to deliver efficient, reliable, cost-effective, and compliant data centers.

  • Select equipment including generators, switchgear, transformers, UPS, PDUs, busways, and battery backup or supercapacitors.
  • Work with mechanical, network, and architectural teams on integrated layouts.
  • Manage consultants and vendors to meet specs, codes, and permitting requirements.
  • Support site selection and utility coordination, assessing grid options, redundancy, and costs.
  • Review documents and shop drawings for technical accuracy.
  • Lead electrical engineering during construction and commissioning; oversee testing and issue resolution.
  • Champion energy efficiency and sustainability, adopting advanced monitoring and control tech.
  • Analyze failure modes and resiliency to boost uptime and lower risks.
  • Collaborate with Supermicro and Modular Data Center teams on rack-level and modular power integration.
  • Develop tools and processes for capacity planning and optimization.
  • Document lessons learned and drive continuous improvement in design and delivery.


Additional Responsibilities:
  • Serve as SME for electrical design, code interpretation, and equipment selection.
  • Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Deliver technical training and support design summits and commissioning reviews.
  • Join vendor qualification, factory testing, and component evaluation.

Connect with industry to monitor new technologies in renewable integration, energy storage, and intelligent power distribution.

  • Willing to travel domestically and internationally (~20%).


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's in Electrical Engineering
  • PE license
  • High-voltage substation, renewables, and grid interconnection experience
  • Knowledge of OCP, Uptime Institute, ASHRAE TC9.9 for data centers
  • Familiar with power shelves, BBU, supercapacitors, UPS
  • Construction support, commissioning, and system reliability testing experience
  • Global projects and compliance (NEC, IEC, CE)
  • Data-driven; skilled in energy efficiency and power analytics
  • Strong interpersonal skills; effective in fast-paced, cross-functional teams


Salary Range

$175,000 - $200,000

The salary offered will depend on several factors, including your location, level, education, training, specific skills, years of experience, and comparison to other employees already in this role. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation, such as participation in bonus and equity award programs.
