A Snapshot of Your DayAs a Senior SCADA Commissioning Engineer, you will serve as the technical authority for SCADA, automation, and communications commissioning activities on high-voltage substation projects. Your day will involve coordinating with engineering, construction, cybersecurity, OEM, utility, and customer teams while leading testing, troubleshooting, and system integration activities. You will ensure SCADA systems, RTUs, protection relays, HMIs, communication networks, and control systems are fully tested and ready for energization and handover. Through strong technical leadership and a commitment to safety, you will help deliver reliable grid infrastructure on schedule and to the highest quality standards.
How You'll Make an Impact- Develop and execute commissioning plans, schedules, procedures, and test programs for SCADA, automation, and communication systems within high-voltage substations.
- Lead and oversee testing and commissioning of SCADA systems, RTUs, HMIs, gateways, communication networks, protection relays, and control systems, including point-to-point and end-to-end communication testing.
- Supervise, coordinate, and mentor commissioning teams while ensuring compliance with safety, cybersecurity, quality, and project requirements.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineering teams, OEMs, telecom providers, utility operators, and customers to resolve technical issues and meet project milestones.
- Ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE, NERC, OSHA, utility, and customer-specific standards while maintaining commissioning documentation, test reports, NCRs, communication test records, and as-built documentation.
- Promote Siemens Energy's Zero Harm culture by conducting safety activities and ensuring safe execution of commissioning work on high-voltage sites.
What You Bring- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Automation Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- 5-10 years of experience in SCADA, automation, and communications commissioning, with required experience in high-voltage substations.
- Working knowledge of RTUs, IEDs, protection systems, utility control centers, BESS, substation controls, and communication protocols including IEC 61850, DNP3, and Modbus.
- Ability to interpret network architecture drawings, control schematics, communication diagrams, and commissioning/test procedures.
- Strong communication, organizational, troubleshooting, and multitasking skills, with the ability to remain effective under pressure.
- Willingness to travel a minimum of 50% for field commissioning work, including travel to customer and project sites as required.
