This is a Senior Analyst role, to participate in major project analysis and reporting across the company's global major project portfolio reviewing and reporting on a variety of project issues from a corporate finance oversight objective. In collaboration with cross-functional teams, the role will work with and report to the Project Reporting Manager, Global Finance to help ensure adherence to company governance requirements, as well as analyse certain project information from a finance/accounting perspective, including application of proper revenue recognition and project financial risk and opportunities analysis and reporting, among others.

Project Reporting:

The Senior Analyst will participate in corporate reviews and reporting of global major projects, including:

  • Learn and gain a deep understanding of the company corporate finance and project operational systems and procedures as they apply to projects
  • Help maintain, develop and refine project reporting tools and templates, currently primarily excel based
  • Assist in various project reviews, using corporate financial systems and tools as well as in collaboration with other corporate teams, business unit management, and project management
  • Help in reporting of results of global major project reviews
  • Assist and help coordinate information around global major projects for the annual external financial statement audit
  • Other duties that may arise


In addition to the Project Reporting role, the Senior Analyst will potentially lead the joint venture accounting newly awarded major infrastructure project.

Project/Joint Venture (JV) Accounting:

The Senior Analyst will be very hands-on as part of the project team to handle the Project/JV accounting and invoicing of a large project from project set-up to running the full JV accounting and reporting, and ensure proper collaboration with joint venture partners, project management, project controls and commercial groups, and various areas of corporate finance, accounting and systems.
  • Understand the JV agreement in areas of project financial management and accounting to properly execute contractual deliverables
  • Understand corporate financial systems (SAP) and company procedures to help facilitate project execution of the JV accounting deliverables
  • Collaborate with project and corporate teams of both JV partners to ensure proper data capture into the JV systems for project invoicing, profit distribution, payments and financial reporting
  • Execute the JV accounting in accordance with IFRS standards and corporate policies, treating the JV as a separate company with its own general ledger, receivables, payables, balance sheet, income statement, etc.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements for distribution to JV Executive Committee members, and corporate teams
  • Prepare various project analysis that support the project and corporate teams understand their share participation and expected fees as part of the monthly financial reporting


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance or other relevant disciplines
  • Preferably a recognized accounting designation (eg. CPA/CA/CMA/CGA) and/or AACE cost control certification (CCP)
  • 10 or more years of relevant experience, preferably in engineering and construction company environments
  • Extensive exposure and/or experience in project accounting, project financial controls and reporting, commercial/contract review and analysis in lumpsum and turnkey projects, cost reimbursables and fixed priced projects, consortium and alliance contracts, design-build and multinational joint venture projects.
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient computer skills: Company reporting systems (SAP) and other standard MS Office tools
  • Advanced level Excel skills (Power BI - good to have)
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to conduct comprehensive financial analysis, assessment and evaluation of projects and to identify potentially contentious issues and over-runs that may expose the company to financial risks
  • Knowledge and/or experience in project accounting, analysis, controllership, risk management and reporting best practices in large, complex multi-billion-dollar projects in mining, metals, infrastructure and energy environments.
  • Knowledge and/or exposure to the complexities of project invoicing, outstanding billed and unbilled reporting etc.
  • Knowledge of/or curiosity to learn project management and cost management cycles (cost baseline, variance analysis, forecasting EAC, contingencies and reserves etc.), to help understand projects better in project reviews.
  • Self starter that has good attention to detail


Base salary range: $74,000 - $124,000
