Full Job Description
WHAT WILL YOU DO?

We're hiring a Product Manager - Technical (PMT) to own Inbound Planning & Demand Shaping for Amazon Shipping. This role exists to give our network the flexibility and decision-making power to plan proactively: to know what volume is arriving, when, and at which site-so that people, processes, and technology across the network can make better decisions about labor, capacity, and sortation before volume ever hits the door.

You'll own inbound volume visibility at the network level and define site-level demand by hour, turning demand forecasts and shipment manifests into the signals operations teams use to plan labor and capacity. You'll ensure unbroken visibility from the moment a shipper hands off freight through the point it is received into our sites, and you'll drive manifest accuracy in partnership with our forecasting and sales-and-operations-planning (S&OP) teams across every planning horizon-from long-range strategic planning down to day-of execution. Crucially, you'll build the demand-shaping capabilities that let the network smooth and steer incoming volume toward available capacity, converting planning accuracy directly into better quality, higher capacity utilization, and lower cost to serve shippers.

You'll work at the intersection of science, engineering, and operations-translating complex operational reality into clear product requirements, and turning forecasting models and manifest signals into products that plan the flow of millions of packages into the network.

You'll collaborate closely with:

- Demand forecasting and data science teams to align volume forecasts with manifest signals across all planning horizons

- Sales-and-operations-planning (S&OP) teams to reconcile planning outputs into a single, trusted signal for labor and capacity

- Operations and network-capacity teams who adopt your data in their planning tools and day-of decisions

- Downstream first-mile execution teams that use inbound signals to optimize site operations and prevent loss

- Engineering teams building the inbound visibility, planning, and integration platforms

- Senior leadership (VP+) setting network capacity and cost strategy

WHO ARE YOU?

You're a technical product leader who is equally comfortable digging into a forecast-versus-actuals variance, writing a crisp product narrative, and walking an operations leader through a capacity trade-off. You have strong product instincts, real data and technical fluency, and the judgment to make decisions in ambiguity where the data is incomplete and the right answer isn't obvious. You're a strong owner who is right a lot, and you measure success by network and business outcomes-quality, capacity, and cost for shippers-not features shipped.

Key attributes:

- Strong product sense-you define the right thing to build, not just build the thing right

- Data and technical fluency to partner credibly with scientists on forecasting and with engineers on data, signals, and integrations

- Operational inclination-you understand how inbound planning, sortation, and labor decisions actually get made, and how better information unlocks flexibility for operators

- Comfort with ambiguity-you decompose an undefined problem space into a clear, sequenced roadmap

- Data-driven-you define the metrics that matter and let them guide prioritization

- Strong written and verbal communicator, comfortable interfacing with senior leadership (VP+) as well as functional and operations teams

- Bias for action balanced with the judgment to know a one-way from a two-way door

You thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment where product decisions directly impact labor efficiency, capacity utilization, delivery quality, and cost across a rapidly scaling network.

Key job responsibilities

Product Vision & Strategy

- Own the multi-year vision, strategy, and roadmap for inbound planning and demand shaping, connecting inbound visibility to the flexibility and decision-making power that unlocks quality, capacity, and cost across the network

- Write the product narratives and requirements that define new capabilities and drive alignment across forecasting, S&OP, operations, and engineering

- Balance near-term, peak-readiness operational needs with long-term investment in inbound visibility and demand-shaping capabilities

Inbound Visibility & Network Planning

- Own inbound volume visibility at the network level; ensure unbroken visibility from shipper handoff through receive at our sites

- Define site-level demand by hour and drive allocation of near-term forecasts into planning units and sortation windows across single- and multi-stop routes

- Account for real-world day-of dynamics-prior-day misses, cancellations, and ad-hoc capacity-when re-allocating volume

- Own the labor- and capacity-planning signals operations teams rely on, using forecast and manifest data to enable proactive, day-of decisions

Manifest Accuracy & Demand Shaping

- Drive shipment manifest accuracy in partnership with forecasting and S&OP; measure planned volume against actual received volume and close the gaps

- Build demand-shaping capabilities that smooth and steer incoming volume toward available capacity, giving the network flexibility to protect quality and reduce cost

- Unify forecasting and S&OP outputs across strategic, weekly, and day-of horizons into a single trusted planning signal

Execution & Systems Integration

- Work with engineering to integrate volume forecast and manifest data into the operator and network-planning tools operations teams use every day

- Define clear acceptance criteria for operational adoption-so planning data is trustworthy, consistently presented, and accurate enough to act on at the site and sortation-window level

- Make sequencing and scope trade-offs to deliver impact incrementally, prioritizing readiness ahead of peak

Metrics & Business Impact

- Own inbound planning accuracy as the primary success measure, along with supporting measures of forecast accuracy at the grain operators plan against and package-mix accuracy

- Establish mechanisms for continuous visibility, baselining, and proactive risk identification

- Quantify the impact of inbound planning and demand-shaping improvements on delivery quality, capacity utilization, and cost to serve, and communicate results to leadership

Cross-Functional Influence

- Build alignment across forecasting, S&OP, engineering, and operations through clear narratives and data

- Represent the voice of operations teams in product decisions

- Drive adoption of inbound planning and demand-shaping capabilities across sites and regions

A day in the life

Your morning starts in the data-reviewing inbound planning accuracy and forecast-versus-actuals at the site, sortation-window, and shipper level to spot where the network is flying blind or mis-planned. You dig into a variance with a data scientist: day-of volume at a site is running ahead of plan, and there's a risk of congestion.

Mid-morning you're writing-refining a product narrative for a new demand-shaping capability, or defining acceptance criteria for surfacing volume forecasts inside an operations planning tool. You craft the argument that connects a manifest-accuracy improvement to real quality, capacity, and cost outcomes for shippers.

In the afternoon you're with your engineering and operations partners: reviewing an integration design, pressure-testing how forecasts are allocated into planning units and sortation windows, and shortlisting sites to baseline forecast output against current planning. You resolve a trade-off on how to handle ad-hoc capacity and prior-day misses in the day-of re-allocation.

Later, you meet with S&OP and operations partners to ground your roadmap in what's actually happening in the buildings-translating their pain into requirements and their feedback into prioritization, with an eye on peak readiness. Throughout the day you move between deep technical and data problems and stakeholder alignment, balancing immediate operational wins with the long-term evolution of the inbound planning platform.
