Applies expertise in the design, development, supply and operation of high-voltage and high-current power supplies used in Fusion research. Responsible for coordinating technical responses to engineering and science requests for unique challenges in power supply development.
About The Job
• The design and development of high-current and high-voltage power supplies from concept to completion
• Modeling power electronics system designs and topologies in support of power supply development
• Development of control and protection algorithms for both loads and power supplies
• Simulation of grid-connected systems ensuring designs meet Utility requirements
• Safety engineering of high-voltage and high-current power supplies
• Liaising with potential Vendors for the development and supply of equipment
• Contract award and project management throughout the project life cycle
About You
• 4+ years' experience of power electronics design and or modeling experience gained on large high-voltage or high-current systems
• Topology design and modeling supporting power electronic systems development
• Development of models and control algorithms for regulation and protection
• Awareness of EMI/EMC issues caused by large electrical loads and grounding issues
• Integration and connection of grid connected systems meeting Utility requirements
• Experience of superconducting magnets, their power supplies and protection would be a plus
• Design of safety features ensuring both equipment and personnel safety
Project Experience:
• Design and development of high voltage or high current systems
• Power quality analysis for grid connected systems
• Liaison with power electronic system vendors, custom equipment and suppliers
• Management of contracts from concept to completion is a plus
Software Knowledge and Skills Required:
• Skilled in MATLAB/Simulink and Python in the support of power electronics designs
• FPGA based control algorithm development
• Knowledge of LabVIEW is a plus but not essential
Other Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Use of AutoCAD, SolidWorks Electrical etc. for design and documentation of systems
• Experience of Altium or similar software for schematic capture/PCB layout is a plus
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with other scientists and engineers
• Accuracy and the ability to identify and correct shortcomings in proposals and designs
• Ability to rapidly gain new knowledge of unique electrical loads and systems
Other Desirable Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Interest in large science or R&D projects
• Background knowledge of very high current and high voltage systems, their risks and safety factors
Education:
Bachelors required, Electrical Engineering preferred with an emphasis on power electronics.
At TAE Technologies, we consider a wide range of factors when making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and job-related knowledge, training; licenses and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements depending on the position offered (non-Sr., Sr., Lead or Manager). The range is $130,000 to $160,000.
