What you will do: As a member of the Hardware Engineering Mechanical/Thermal/Reliability (MTR) Component Engineering team you'll be responsible for the design of our rack sub-systems. You'll provide leadership in the application of new mechanical technologies to large scale server deployments in a continuous effort to deliver a world-class customer experience. This is a fast-paced, challenging position, and you'll work with thought leaders in multiple technology areas. You'll have relentlessly high standards for yourself and everyone you work with, and you'll be constantly looking for ways to improve your products performance, quality and cost. You'll need to understand when a change in technology enables a completely different way of approaching design. We're changing an industry, and we want team members who are ready for this challenge and want to reach beyond what is possible today.
You will demonstrate a working knowledge of mechanical and thermal systems, with experience in systems integration of complex server products. You'll have the desire to learn from new challenges and the problem solving and communication skills to work within a highly interactive and experienced team. Candidates must show a hands-on passion for their work and be able to communicate their ideas and concepts both verbally, and visually. Candidates must demonstrate an ability to integrate feedback and to respond quickly to changing contexts and work environments.
Key job responsibilities
In this role, you will:
* Perform mechanical design and development for rack sub-systems and associated components (frame, rails, chassis, air dams, sesimic brackets, stabilizers, blanking panels)
* Validate subsystems and components meet NPI program requirements
* Participate in the cross-discipline design process working with other HW and SW team members to develop optimized integrated solutions
* Conduct failure analysis and solution validation
* Manage interaction with overseas resources
* Provide mentorship and technical reviews to a team of mechanical/thermal design engineers
A day in the life
The average week is a mixture of using engineering tools (CAD and thermal simulation), data analysis, meetings (internal and vendors), test report reviews, design reviews, and communicating via tickets or emails to make design and project decisions.
About the team
This team is responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of mechanical components that enable high-performance, large-scale data center systems. Engineers work as primary owners of their components, partnering closely with suppliers and manufacturing teams to ensure solutions perform reliably from initial development through deployment in the field.
Our mission is to deliver highly reliable, scalable solutions that support increasingly demanding compute workloads. This includes solving challenges related to performance and long-term operation in real-world data center environments.
Engineers develop deep expertise in their component domains, enabling more effective design reviews, targeted validation strategies, and rapid resolution of issues observed during development and in production systems.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans and functional test procedures
- Experience in server technologies such as, thermal, mechanical, power, and signal integrity
- Experience in compute and storage server architecture and design for large scale applications
- 5+ years experience in mechanical design for server technologies or Data Center applications
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production
- Experience with the project management of technical projects
- Proficient with CAD tools such as Creo or Solidworks.
