A DAY IN THE LIFE
As a Senior High Voltage Estimator, you'll lead the estimating and procurement process for utility-scale renewable energy projects, developing accurate, competitive cost estimates for high-voltage substations, transmission lines, collector systems, and interconnection facilities. You'll serve as a key partner to Engineering, Business Development, Supply Chain, and Construction, coordinating cross-functional teams to ensure bid accuracy, technical compliance, and executable project strategies. Your day moves between analyzing drawings and specifications, soliciting and evaluating vendor and subcontractor pricing, assessing project risks and opportunities, leading bid reviews, and supporting client presentations and negotiations to help secure new work. Projects may include Wind, Solar, Energy Storage, Substations, Transmission, and other high-voltage infrastructure.
STEP INTO THE ROLE
- Identifies and calculates cost of project safety requirements (training, ppe) into bid. Identifies and determines JHA risks and includes costs in estimates. Pursues, selects and utilizes subcontractors who meet DHB risk management criteria.
- Displays personal and professional ethics and complies with and enforces company policies and procedures when bidding projects, including utilizing company estimating software, performing bid reviews, etc. Takes personal responsibility to ensure that a quality bid has been produced.
- Plan the estimate for and during the pre-bid meeting. Create preliminary project schedule during estimate.
- Supervises and provides development of subordinates through mentoring, formal training and exposure to diverse work experiences.
- Conduct project site visits and review cost/production reports in order to compare actual cost and plan to estimate and conduct special studies to develop and establish standard cost data.
- Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work, required contents of estimate and critical tasks to complete the project. Review design options and recommend best solution based on cost, materials, etc. Calculate statistical data necessary for bid: quantity take-offs, materials, labor, equipment, and specialty items.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
