Job Description
We are seeking a talented Senior Electrical Engineer to join our dedicated team in Ottawa, Ontario.
In this role, you will work independently on multiple projects as assigned by a Manager or Group Lead. You may lead the complete electrical design process, serve as a technical expert for specialized designs, and coordinate the work of engineers and designers across several concurrent projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform as Electrical Project Lead through project phases including feasibility studies, building assessments, conceptual design, basis of design, detailed design, construction administration, commissioning, and project closeout.
Assess project requirements, divide projects into manageable tasks, and work with the Project Manager to establish the scope of work, budget, schedule, and staffing requirements.
Prepare electrical design scopes of work based on preliminary assessments and client meetings.
Prepare engineering studies, reports, calculations, and schematic designs for new electrical systems.
Review and assess the operation, capacity, condition, and code compliance of existing electrical systems.
Prepare and review electrical drawings and technical documents, including single-line diagrams, riser diagrams, equipment layouts, schedules, specifications, and design details.
Coordinate with clients, architects, engineers, contractors, utilities, vendors, and authorities having jurisdiction, and alert the Project Manager to potential changes in scope, schedule, budget, or resourcing.
Work with code officials and other design professionals when interpretations, variances, or alternative solutions are required.
Assign work to project team members, review progress and technical quality, and provide clear markups and direction for drawing revisions.
Perform and review electrical engineering calculations, including service and feeder sizing, load flow, voltage drop, short-circuit, protective-device coordination, arc-flash, equipment-capacity, and underground cable ampacity calculations.
Prepare and review construction cost estimates and budgets, and review contractor progress payment applications.
Coordinate project-document completion internally and externally, and provide electrical engineering support during procurement, construction, commissioning, warranty, and closeout.
Promote and contribute to company design, production, and quality-management standards.
Mentor engineers and designers, provide technical guidance, and support staff development.
Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
