Description POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Sr. Director of Product Management will lead end-to-end product strategy, development and lifecycle management for our North American battery energy storage systems (BESS) and energy solutions portfolio. Translate customer needs, market intelligence, technology trends, and project economics into differentiated hardware and software platforms for utility-scale and commercial & industrial (C&I) markets.
RESPONSIBILITIES: - Product Strategy and Market Requirements: Own portfolio architecture and the multi-year roadmap across utility-scale, C&I, solar-plus-storage, microgrids, and emerging applications. Translate customer input from developers, IPPs, EPCs, utilities, and C&I customers into specifications and priorities; use competitive, technology, policy, grid, and monetization analysis to identify growth opportunities.
- Integrated Platform Development: Lead AC- and DC-coupled BESS platforms spanning battery/DC blocks, PCS, MV equipment, plant controllers, EMS/SCADA, communications, and cloud software. Define controls, monitoring, digital twin, forecasting, and optimization capabilities that differentiate the platform and create recurring value.
- Product Development and NPI: Drive Engineering and technology partners from concept and requirements through design, validation, certification, pilots, production readiness, and commercial launch. Align cross-functional teams on development priorities and commercial readiness.
- Product Economics: Build investment cases covering market opportunity, revenue, target cost, gross margin, NRE, pricing, development investment, and lifecycle economics to support executive decisions.
- Strategic Partnerships: Own relationships with battery, PCS, controls, software, MV equipment, and integration partners. Determine where to develop, integrate, partner, or own IP to strengthen differentiation and competitiveness.
- Lifecycle Management: Own introduction, upgrades, cost reduction, reliability improvements, and end-of-life. Use installed-base performance and customer feedback to shape next-generation products.
- Standards and Compliance: Address safety, grid-interconnection, electrical, communications, and cybersecurity requirements, including UL 9540/9540A, NFPA 855, IEEE 1547, NEC, and relevant grid codes.
- Team and Cross-Functional Leadership: Build and develop the Product organization; lead Product Management, Solutions Engineering, and related technical functions. Align Engineering, Sales, Procurement, Manufacturing, Project Execution, Service, Finance, and partners on customer needs and execution.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, Energy Systems, or a related discipline; advanced technical or business degree preferred.
- 15+ years in BESS, solar, power electronics, distributed energy resources, microgrids, utilities, or related technologies, including direct energy-storage product leadership. Proven success delivering strategy, roadmaps, business cases, development programs, and commercial launches.
- Strong knowledge of integrated BESS architecture: batteries, PCS/inverters, transformers/MV equipment, plant controls, EMS/SCADA, communications, cloud software, and system integration.
- Deep understanding of utility-scale and C&I storage, behind-the-meter (BTM) and front-of-the-meter (FTM) applications, customer procurement, electricity markets, tariffs, incentives, and storage value streams.
- Strength in market sizing, financial modeling, product P&L, target costing, pricing, margin analysis, and investment prioritization. Ability to engage customers and partners and influence complex technical and commercial decisions.
- Proven leadership of complex initiatives across Engineering, Sales, Solutions Engineering, Procurement, Manufacturing, Project Execution, Service, Finance, Legal, and external partners.
- Strong written, verbal, presentation, and executive communication skills.
