Full Job Description
Join Smith+Nephew as a Senior Accountant supporting our Maple Plain manufacturing facility. In this highly visible role, you will own key accounting processes, drive financial accuracy, support operational decision making, and partner with leaders across the business. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys working in a manufacturing environment, influencing outcomes, and contributing to the financial success of a growing organization.

What will you be doing?
  • Lead the monthly financial close process including journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, expense reviews, variance analysis, and reporting to Corporate
  • Maintain the accounting ledger and ensure all transactions are recorded accurately, timely, and with appropriate approvals
  • Execute daily accounting activities within QuickBooks, including purchasing, inventory, accounts payable, and intercompany transactions
  • Analyze manufacturing standard cost variances including material purchase price, material usage, and labor utilization, and prepare monthly reporting
  • Partner with the Operations Finance Senior Director and Regional Controller on monthly reporting, forecasts, budgets, cost accounting activities, and special projects
  • Maintain compliance with IFRS accounting requirements including prepaids, accruals, lease accounting, and intangible assets
  • Support inventory management activities and assist with inventory cycle count audits to validate perpetual inventory balances
  • Assist with internal and external audits while ensuring compliance with corporate policies and internal controls
  • Support annual updates to ERP standard costs, inventory revaluation activities, labor rates, and overhead rates
  • Partner with Corporate Tax and Compliance teams to support annual reporting requirements
  • Safeguard confidential information, company assets, and documentation in accordance with corporate expectations and controls


What will you need to be successful?
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field
  • At least 5 years of experience in General Accounting
  • Strong understanding of general accounting and cost accounting concepts including accruals, prepaids, depreciation, gross versus net profit, absorption and recovery, and standard costing
  • Experience supporting month end close processes, account reconciliations, financial reporting, and manufacturing variance analysis
  • Experience working with inventory accounting and manufacturing environments
  • Knowledge of IFRS accounting principles
  • Experience using ERP systems and QuickBooks is preferred
  • CPA certification is nice to have

The anticipated base compensation range for this position is $96,750.00 - 145,000.00 USD annually. The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role at Smith + Nephew. Compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
