Full Job Description
Summary:

AI Software Engineer is the new baseline at Age of Learning - engineers who do not just use AI tools occasionally, but design their workflows around them, orchestrate agents to plan and execute work, and treat AI coding agents as a first-class collaborator. We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the ABCmouse product team within Digital Consumer Products. You will help us build high-performance web and mobile applications that reach millions of learners, while helping us craft how AI engineering takes shape on our team.
AI Expectations:
  • Daily use: You use AI coding agents (for real, substantive tasks - analysis, coding, refactoring, testing, navigating codebases, and documentation. Not just research or autocomplete.
  • Velocity: We expect engineers who use AI well to operate with meaningful leverage - doing more at the same time and improving productivity for themselves and their team.
  • Team leadership: As an AI champion, you share what works, whether that be skills, plugins or MCP's, providing guidance and setting standards on usage for your team and the company as a whole.
  • Continuous learning: The tooling is changing fast. You stay current and bring recommendations to the team when something would meaningfully improve how we work.

Responsibilities:
  • Apply agentic workflows across the SDLC - refactoring, test generation, debugging, documentation, codebase navigation - and help evolve the team's AI engineering practices in the process
  • Own features end-to-end through production - monitor what you ship and use data to validate your assumptions
  • Drive technical decisions and architectural direction for your area of ownership; the code you ship sets the standard for the team
  • Leave the codebase cleaner than you found it - refactoring is not a separate backlog item, it is part of how you ship
  • Partner with Product, Design, and stakeholders to align on scope, priorities, technical tradeoffs, and delivery timelines
  • Identify, design, and develop features and functionality within applications for deployment to web, iOS, and Android

Minimum Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, ideally consumer-facing and content-driven web or mobile applications
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience prompting, evaluating, and building with LLMs and AI coding assistants
  • Deep experience with agentic workflows, prompt engineering, and context window management
  • Track record of using AI tooling to multiply your own output - not just as autocomplete, but as a genuine development partner
  • Demonstrated ability to own features end-to-end through production, including post-release monitoring and learning from data
  • Shipped production cross-platform mobile applications to both the iOS App Store and Google Play
  • Familiar with software design paradigms and design patterns
  • Solid understanding of the full software development life cycle
  • Experienced with performance tuning and optimization techniques for both front-end and backend systems.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Genuine excitement for helping define what AI engineering means at Age of Learning

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science degree or related subject
  • Experience with MCP, function calling, or tool-using agents
  • Experience with Svelte or SvelteKit
  • Experience consuming REST and/or gRPC APIs
  • Proficient in JavaScript and TypeScript
  • Proficient in Flutter and Dart
  • Experience working in an Agile development framework
  • Educational and/or game development experience
