Full Job Description
Summary:

We're looking for a rare combination: a passionate, player-empathetic designer who can develop complex systems as well as clear, end-user experiences for children. The Lead UX/Game Designer will work across all of ABCmouse's game experiences: improving existing activities, ideating new features and mechanics, and creating live-service content-while keeping the learning needs of young children at the center of every decision.

This is a "unicorn" role that sits at the intersection of UX design, casual game design, and data-informed product thinking. The ideal candidate is action-oriented and producer-minded, comfortable driving work from a rough idea all the way to launch, and energized by the challenge of making education feel like play.
Responsibilities:
  • Lead end-to-end design of new game features and improvements to existing games, from concept through launch and live-service iteration
  • Create high-quality UX flows, wireframes, prototypes, and visual specs in Figma that communicate design intent clearly to engineering and product partners
  • Design and balance complex game metagame systems and economy mechanics that motivate and reward young learners
  • Use product data, user research, and competitive analysis to identify opportunities for improvement and validate design decisions
  • Collaborate closely with producers, engineers, educators, and artists to bring features from inception to shipped product
  • Champion the end user-primarily children ages 2-10 and their parents-throughout the design process, advocating for age-appropriate, accessible, and delightful experiences
  • Maintain a deep understanding of the ABCmouse product, user base, and competitive landscape to proactively surface improvement opportunities
  • Leverage AI tools (e.g., Claude, Sc, or similar) to accelerate design exploration, prototyping workflows, and launch of designs to our end users at high quality
  • Partner with data teams to pull and interpret metrics that inform ongoing feature refinement and live-service decisions
  • Contribute to design system standards and best practices for game design across the ABCmouse product and within AI tools and workflows
Minimum Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience in game design, UX design, or a hybrid of both, with shipped titles or products in your portfolio
  • Proven experience designing casual mobile games, with a strong grasp of engagement loops, progression systems, and player motivation
  • Proficiency in Figma for UX flows, interactive prototypes, and design specs
  • Demonstrated ability to design and tune game economy and metagame systems
  • Track record of delivering live-service content and iterating on features post-launch based on data
  • Comfort working with product analytics-pulling data, reading dashboards, and using metrics to drive decisions
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills; able to work fluidly with product, engineering, art, and education teams
  • Action-oriented with a producer mindset-you drive work forward and see it through to completion without waiting to be asked
  • Passion for and deep empathy with end users, especially children and families

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience designing for kids' products and/or educational platforms
  • Familiarity with early childhood learning principles or curriculum design
  • Experience with AI-assisted design tools integrated into a professional workflow
  • Background in both UX and game design disciplines (not just one or the other)
  • Experience at a company shipping subscription or live-service consumer products
  • Familiarity with ABCmouse or similar early learning platforms as a user, parent, or designer

The estimated salary range for a new hire in this position is below. Salary may vary depending on job-related factors, including knowledge, skills, experience, and location.

Total Compensation:

$140,000-$165,000 USD

Age of Learning currently provides:
  • 91% of employee health and welfare benefits premiums & 70% of dependent benefits premiums
  • A 401(k) program with employer match
  • 15 paid vacation days (increases to 20 days on your 3rd anniversary), 12 observed national paid holidays, 9 sick days, and 16 paid volunteer hours per year
  • 7 paid days for company-wide year end closure (includes 3 observed paid holidays)
