Full Job Description
The Role You'll make Mecka's capture hardware practical for the people recording the real world. You'll build the Android applications that connect our devices, guide recording, and show users their progress and how to recover when something goes wrong. The work sits where physical hardware, mobile software and everyday use meet. Getting it right across many phones and operating conditions helps more people contribute high-quality data for robot learning.
What You'll Do
Build clear app workflows for connecting hardware and capturing data.
Integrate device interfaces and media capabilities into native Android software.
Design status displays and recovery flows so users stay on track through disconnections, permission changes and interrupted transfers.
Improve responsiveness, video performance, memory use and battery consumption across supported phones.
Add diagnostics, and work with firmware engineers to reproduce issues and test complete user workflows.
What You Bring
Must-have:
3-4 years of experience building and debugging native Android applications with connected hardware or media features on real devices, with strong Kotlin or Java skills.
A solid understanding of Android lifecycle, concurrency, permissions, background execution and networking.
The ability to design reliable app state that preserves user progress when connections or processes are interrupted.
Hands-on experience profiling and debugging performance, memory and connectivity on real Android devices.
The ability to build clear user interfaces and automated tests for important app workflows.
Nice-to-have:
Experience with USB host APIs, UVC cameras, MediaCodec, Camera2 or native C++ integration.
Experience with device provisioning, recording apps or large file transfers.
A Note on Applying
Studies show women and candidates from underrepresented groups often only apply when they meet 100% of the listed qualifications, while others apply after meeting 60%. If you don't check every box above but believe you can do the job, we encourage you to apply - we're looking for capability and trajectory, not a perfect checklist match.
