Join Montrium as a Software Developer, SharePoint Backend and help evolve the backend capabilities that power our established Connect platform. In this role, you will work at the intersection of software development, SharePoint platform configuration, APIs, SDKs, data models, and regulated content workflows-building reliable product capabilities for life sciences customers.

Job Description

Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Software Developer, SharePoint Backend helps maintain, extend, and modernize the backend components that support Montrium's Connect platform. This role focuses on developing application logic, integrations, templates, workflows, and data-driven capabilities that interact with SharePoint through its configuration model, object models, SDKs, web services, and APIs.

As a member of the Development team, you will contribute to the following areas:

Develop and modernize backend product capabilities

  • Develop, maintain, and modernize backend product components that interact with SharePoint services, configuration, data structures, and integration interfaces.
  • Configure and extend SharePoint structures, including templates, lists, libraries, metadata, permissions, workflows, and settings that support Connect product features and regulated content processes.
  • Develop and maintain ASPX-based forms and related application components that capture, validate, and present data through SharePoint lists, libraries, workflows, metadata, and backend service interactions.
  • Build and maintain integrations using SharePoint APIs, SDKs, object models, web services, and related Microsoft platform technologies.
  • Translate product requirements, technical designs, and regulated workflow needs into reliable, maintainable, and testable application code.
  • Troubleshoot product and support issues involving API behavior, permissions, configuration, data access, workflow execution, and backend service interactions.
  • Improve the reliability, security, performance, and maintainability of existing backend application features and integration patterns.
  • Participate in release preparation and packaging activities, including validation of configuration changes, preparation of deployment artifacts, release-note documentation, and controlled promotion of backend components across environments.
  • Document configuration patterns, integration points, backend behaviors, and operational procedures that enable repeatable delivery, troubleshooting, and knowledge sharing.

This role is ideal for a developer who enjoys solving product problems close to the backend and integration layers. You will help keep established customer-facing capabilities reliable today while contributing to improved patterns, stronger maintainability, and the gradual evolution of Connect's technical foundation.

Contribute to a collaborative engineering culture

  • Share knowledge, support team learning, and contribute to a collaborative engineering environment.
  • Collaborate with developers, architects, product owners, quality assurance, DevOps, and support teams to deliver reliable product outcomes.
  • Communicate technical risks, dependencies, implementation trade-offs, and delivery progress clearly.
  • Participate in code reviews, design discussions, troubleshooting activities, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrate accountability, curiosity, initiative, and respect for sustainable work practices.

Required Qualifications

  • College diploma, university degree, or equivalent practical experience in software development, computer science, information technology, or a related field.
  • Five or more years of software development experience, including hands-on experience with SharePoint applications or Microsoft platform development.
  • Strong experience with C#, .NET, and related application development technologies, with working knowledge of JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and web application patterns.
  • Experience developing against SharePoint APIs, SDKs, object models, web services, or integration interfaces.
  • Experience configuring and extending SharePoint lists, libraries, templates, metadata, permissions, workflows, and related platform capabilities.
  • Experience troubleshooting application issues involving backend configuration, API interactions, permissions, data access, workflow execution, and platform behavior.
  • Working knowledge of Git, CI/CD practices, code review, unit testing, automated functional testing, and controlled software delivery.
  • Understanding of secure development practices and how security principles apply to platform-based applications.

Additional Qualifications (That Would Help You Succeed)

  • Experience with SharePoint Server, SharePoint Subscription Edition, hybrid SharePoint environments, or classic SharePoint customization and deployment models.
  • Experience with legacy SharePoint technologies such as ASPX-based forms, WCF/SOAP services, or XSLT.
  • Experience with SQL, data modeling, migrations, backend data troubleshooting, or data-driven application features.
  • Working knowledge of Azure services, PowerShell, monitoring tools, or DevOps practices.
  • Experience in a SaaS, regulated, pharmaceutical, life sciences, or GxP environment.

Soft Skills

  • Written and spoken fluency in English and French is essential (other languages are an asset).
  • Strong interpersonal and time-management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively and build alignment through influence and consensus.
  • Comfortable working through ambiguity, balancing technical detail with product, quality, and customer considerations.
