Job Description

Job Overview

We are seeking an InterSystems IRIS and HealthShare Developer to design, build, and optimize enterprise-grade integration solutions and patient-centric healthcare systems. In this role, you will lead the technical implementation of core platform RICOH Electronic Data Exchange and Patient Information Management Systems (PIMS) (real-time clinical data aggregation, master patient indexing, and patient workflows).

Beyond core engineering, this role requires strong analytical skills to bridge the gap between technical design and business strategy. You will interact directly with customers, clinical teams, and external stakeholders to gather requirements, translate operational needs into technical specifications, and ensure seamless delivery across the product lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Customer Interaction & Requirements Gathering: Act as a primary technical point of contact for clients, and vendor partners. Facilitate discovery sessions, analyze customer workflows, and translate complex business requirements into clear functional specifications and technical architecture.

  • Healthcare Interoperability & PIMS Core: Architect and build PIMS solutions leveraging InterSystems HealthShare and IRIS for Health. Implement Patient Demographics Query (PDQ), Master Patient Index (MPI) integrations, and clinical workflows using HL7 (v2/v3), FHIR (REST/JSON).

  • Enterprise Data Exchange Engineering: Design end-to-end, high-throughput Data Exchange products. Build robust automated file pipelines, custom business services, processes (BPL), and operations (DTL) supporting transport protocols including MLLP, SFTP, TCP/IP, REST, and SOAP.

  • InterSystems ObjectScript & Unified Data Architecture: Write modular, high-performance InterSystems ObjectScript (COS). Design multi-dimensional arrays (Globals), ObjectScript classes, embedded SQL queries, and object-relational mappings.

  • Full-Stack Web & API Development: Develop custom web interfaces, administrative dashboards, and patient portal backend hooks using modern web frameworks (React, Angular, or Vue) connected to InterSystems IRIS via RESTful APIs and WebSockets.

  • Database & Performance Optimization: Manage IRIS multi-model database capabilities (Relational, Document, Object, and Multidimensional). Optimize query performance, message queue indexing, and payload processing for millions of transactions.

  • Security, Compliance & Delivery: Ensure full compliance with HIPAA, HITECH, and SOC 2 standards by configuring OAuth2/OIDC, TLS/SSL encryption, role-based access controls (RBAC), and comprehensive audit logging. Conduct product demos, user acceptance testing (UAT) sessions, and end-user onboarding.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Customer Interaction & Analysis: Proven track record in customer-facing engineering or technical consulting roles. Strong expertise in requirements analysis, technical writing, scope definition, and client communications.

  • InterSystems Ecosystem:

  • Understanding of interoperability with healthcare technologies and seamless ecosystems.

  • Proficiency in ObjectScript, DTL (Data Transformation Language), and BPL (Business Process Language).

  • Bonus: If you have experience with InterSystems IRIS for Health, HealthShare (UCR, Enterprise Master Patient Index), and/or Ensemble/Caché.

  • Healthcare Data Standards: Deep familiarity with HL7 v2/v3, FHIR R4.

  • Database Engineering: Advanced knowledge of SQL (indexes, views, stored procedures) paired with a clear understanding of InterSystems multi-dimensional Globals.

  • Web Development: Experience building responsive front-end applications (React, Angular, JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML5/CSS3) and integrating them with backend systems via REST APIs, OpenAPI/Swagger specifications.

  • Protocols & Networking: Hands-on experience with secure data transmission methods (SFTP, AS2, HTTPS, WebSockets) and network protocols (TCP/IP, MLLP).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing customer expectations and technical delivery schedules in an Agile/Scrum environment.

  • Prior experience building or maintaining Electronic Health Records (EHR) or complex PIMS platforms.

  • Hands-on experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD automation pipelines for InterSystems deployments.

  • InterSystems Official Certifications (e.g., InterSystems IRIS Core Development).

  • Select the medical, dental, life, and disability insurance coverage that fits your needs.
  • Contribute to your financial security with Ricoh Canada's Retirement plan, with company matching contributions.
  • Augment your education with team member tuition assistance programs.
  • Enjoy paid vacation time and paid holidays annually.
  • Tap into many other benefits to enhance your health, wellness such and ongoing personal and professional development.
