Position Summary

Mesabi Metallics is looking for a Shift Supervisor who will be responsible for overseeing the pellet plant's operations during their assigned shift. This role involves ensuring efficient and safe processing of ore, managing personnel, and coordinating with other departments to achieve production goals while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.

Job Responsibilities

Reporting to the Coordinator - Pellet Operations, the Shift Supervisor will be responsible for the following:
  • Participating in all safety activities and meetings
  • Maintaining work flow by monitoring steps of the process, setting processing variables, observing control points and equipment, monitoring team and resources, studying methods, and implementing cost reductions
  • Developing reporting procedures and systems
  • Troubleshooting and facilitating corrections to equipment and process malfunctions
  • Initiating and fostering a spirit of cooperation within and between departments
  • Accomplishing results by communicating job expectations, planning, monitoring, and appraising job results
  • Completing a production plan by scheduling and assigning personnel, accomplishing work results, establishing priorities, monitoring progress, revising schedules, resolving problems, and reporting results of the processing flow
  • Providing information by compiling, initiating, sorting, and analyzing production performance records and data
  • Maintaining a safe and clean work environment by educating and directing team on the use of all control points, equipment, and resources
  • Helping resolve team problems by analyzing data, investigating issues, identifying solutions, and recommending action
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills and Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of processing facility operations in the Mining industry including pellet plant operations, safety, maintenance, equipment, and staff utilization.
  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to effectively train and mentor employees.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Comfortable with a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent work ethic, and attendance record.
  • Able to work 12-hour shifts

Education
  • High School Diploma or GED.

Physical Requirements
  • This position requires some work in front of a PC, desk, and phone and regular field work.
  • Some lifting and strength required when working in plant.
  • Must be available to work shifts, weekends, call-outs and overtime.

Salary
  • $92,000 - $115,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
